neepheid Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Just snagged one of these from the states for £60 delivered Looks like a good starting point for a project, there's still a few left - another one went for a fiver less last night! Of course, there's still USPS/HM Customs and Excise/ParcelFarce to make it through. Quote
beerdragon Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 He's sold a lot of stuff, but he's got over fifty neg feedback in the last month. Quote

Another 28 -ves from the same buyer at the same time. I count those as a single transaction, personally. One big order went wrong and the buyer left -ve for every single item. It just looks bad because of the totting up. In my opinion that skews it to look really bad. If you combine these groups into 1 complaint each, that's down to 17 -ve now or 0.5%. Further more, they seem to actually respond to -ve feedback. I'm not that worried, my experience has been positive so far. Edited September 5, 2008 by neepheid Quote

As I said in my initial post - there's still USPS/HM Customs and Excise/ParcelFarce to make it through. I feel like I have to defend myself here in the face of some scepticism. It's just a heads up on what seems like a reasonable starting point for a project, at a favourable price. Yes, it's in the states. Yes there has been some negative feedback. If that bothers you - caveat emptor - if you think it looks dodgy, walk away. I consider the risks to be within acceptable tolerances, as I explained earlier in the thread. Quote

National Music Supply are massive , just look at the feedback score, I'm sure you will have no problems with them and if you do I'm sure they will rectify it. Even if they don't you've lost the price of a few beers and a curry Do you need some humbuckers for it ? Quote

I've taken far greater risks on eBay sales and though there is time for me to get shafted yet, I've always been happy with how things have gone and what I have received. I reckon that looks a cracking deal and for a project it looks as good as you'll get anywhere Quote
warwickhunt Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Judging from the wood colour/patternation I have a sneaking suspicion the wood 'might' be Korina rather than Alder. I'm no expert so don't gun me down but I've seen a fair bit of Alder and Korina but I am aware that photos can be deceptive. Not that it matters, it's a bargain price and whether it is Alder or Korina they are both valid tone woods Quote

Poplar is also a shout: image courtesy of Warmoth Oh well, I won't know for sure until I get it. Also they used the same photo for all the auctions, so it might not even be that exact one I get. Quote
steve Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 thanks for the heads up, I'll be interested to hear your impressions of it when it arrives Quote

I'll reserve judgement until I get it and see the quality (or not) of the routing and the dimensions. However, I'm speculating about some traditional looking stuff, like maybe TV Jones Thundertrons. Happy Jack Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Mind you, there are alternatives ... If the wood's not pretty on the body I've snagged here then I might go in that direction... Quote
SJA Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 (edited) I liked the look of the 90's Gibson Les Paul bass, so I'd choose EMG select humbuckers (on the cheap), trans red or red stain on the body & neck, and black GB7 tuners and black gotoh 201 bridge. Edited September 9, 2008 by SJA Quote
Ou7shined Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I'd put money on it getting a hipshot bridge. Quote
