Where can I find out more about Rickenfakers? Such as why there are so many and if there is any way to spot a "good" one without playing it.
There are so many because the Rick 4000 series design dates back to the 1950s and copies have being made since approximately 1970.

There's not really a foolproof way of spotting a good one (my best-quality one is damn-near unplayable!) but many of the new ones have had very good receptions from people on here who have got them. However, most of these are not particularly accurate copies, so if that matters, you need to look at the 70s Japanese ones - probably the best way would be to wait until one comes up for sale on BC, at least you get more communication with the owner & possibly previous owners too.

That'll be a fiver - cheers!

I think you're right there. It kind of helped me know decent fakers from dodgy ones although I still have no clue as to what is what when TRCs have been removed.

Also, hellothere, you'll never know a good one before you play it. Even decent quality fakers can come with issues!

TRC, anybody selling should really be prepared to provide photo's, enough for you to cross Jon's palm :) .
Quality ones with issue's? That's why I chose a bolt neck. On the vintage copies (and vintage Rick's), fretboards, bridges, necks can be a problem if abused. A bolt neck is easier to work on. IMO.

In mine too. Helps yours is a twin truss rod as well.

Karl, just looking at the ebay ad mate, I found it a bit confusing you haven't named a frieght price? Am I just being stupid or is it not said how much is going to be paid for delivery? That may put people if so. Just a thought.

Took me 2 nights and about 4 hours to get that far, by which time I had lost the will to live (problem with Firefox). House accident was beckoning :) .
When I 1st went into postage with the ad, I put £50, insured with case, then it decided to change to freight and I couldn't change it.

To be honest I didn't expect the ad to last this long. I've put BIN would be £370 inc case/insured delivery, but I reckon of the dozens of watchers I'll get offers of £250 after it's pulled. They will be pointed along the lines of anatomical impossibilities :) .
Cheers,
Karl.
Yours isn't a Kasuga - I found a logo'd one the same as yours on the Rickenfakers Facebook page - this one's branded as JooDee, which was a brand used by the Yamaki factory. Yamaki's best-known brand was Daion, these are spectacularly rare & can sell for a fortune. I had no idea they did a Rickenfaker, and unsurprisingly, now I want one...

Anyway, here's the FB JooDee - identical binding & inlays, apart from the colour it's a dead match:

Jap Fakers used a lot of the same parts, regardless of the factory - it's a common misconception that hardware & pickups were made in-house, this was seldom the case, possibly never. Gotoh, Chushin & Nishin Onpa produced a lot of the bits used in many 70s & 80s JapCraps, plus there will have been a variety of other hardware & electronics manufacturers who aren't yet identified.

J.
You can have mine if you want.. It's a seriously lovely Faker, looks the biz & sounds it too, but sadly my cash-flow is 'furked' & I need to get some pennies in quickly. So if this attracts interest it'll have to go. Ho de effin' how...

Don't think this listing will be there for long due to the 'R' word being used again!

This guy has been trying to sell a Ric TRC for some time. Now he's using a photo of a real TRC. You have to email him for a photo of the actual one on sale. Methinks rather dodgy.

Can i ask who is this 'JH' who reports anyone who even vaguely hints at Rickennbacker connections with their 'Fakers, such as mentioning, Lemmy, Paul McCartney etc in their ebay listings? Is this person really that anal ?

John Hall, the CEO of RIC.

I don't think he's anal, but possibly obsessive about defending his US trademarks (even if they don't apply in the UK). :)

Blimey... I've never seen a scratchplate like that before. :)

It actually makes more sense if you think about it.

That's bloody lovely, that is. Plus better-made & 100 times more exclusive than any poxy Rickenbacker. :)

Nice John Birch that, very Lemmy!
Can tell you for a fact that it's been stripped of the original finish due to the lack of headstock logo, also the knobs have been changed along with the truss rod cover.
If anybodies tempted don't hesitate! Best bass I've ever owned, fact.
