davidlovellbass Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 i was thinking of not saying anything about the bass, only that i'd be selling two seymour duncan ric pickups and a hipshot ric bridge attached to the correct shape body as ebay allows the OEM parts to contain the word Rickenbacker in the title
Musky Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013
i was thinking of not saying anything about the bass, only that i'd be selling two seymour duncan ric pickups and a hipshot ric bridge attached to the correct shape body as ebay allows the OEM parts to contain the word Rickenbacker in the title
Strictly speaking you're probably right. The only problem is that JH doesn't seem to see things like that and will put in a vero complaint to Ebay even on things that aren't registered trademarks. Ebay will just roll over and pull the auction just like they did even before RIC had any registered marks on their designs in the UK. Just use it as a shop window, include your phone number and urge people to make a note of it. If it gets pulled you may be able to do a deal off ebay and save the not inconsiderable fees to boot. Personally I'd crop the photos to not show the bass as well.
Mr. Foxen Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Only real difficulty with selling things not via ebay is you have to know what price you want.
karlfer Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 There is a R***fakers Facebook page, just do a search.
There was a page that was quite busy, with lots of pictures. I think it was Nick that started it up but it doesn't seem to be there anymore, just another one with a handful of pictures and comments. Anyone know what happened - JH practicing his dark arts perhap?

BigRedX Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Wonder how long this will last?
Beer of the Bass Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 It'd be a shame if that got pulled. I know it probably does infringe their perceived trademarks (how much that means outside the US I don't know), but there's no way anyone could mistake that for a Rickenbacker.
Musky Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Another one here.
Mr. Foxen Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Looks like standard Chinese jobs you can get on Tradetang etc.
Musky Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I think it's one of the Bass Collection models - the more expensive one had chequered binding like that.
Dave Vader Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 (edited) Maybe we need a subscription only area of the forum for selling rickenfakers, unable to be viewed by anyone who doesn't pay a very high premium, and very noticeable and worded correctly. Then the Rickenwaffen could fund basschat by having to subscribe to it, and we could find another way round the problem later. Edited March 14, 2013 by Dave Vader

karlfer Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Presumably the Ibby. I would like to know if this is a faker with two truss rods? They have been made, so I am curious and yes I have a reason for asking.
davidlovellbass Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Just the one truss rod, i can send you some detailed pictures with all the bits that would get the ad pulled
karlfer Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 That is amazing. Judging by the photos I (briefly) saw on the first Gumtree ad, your bass has a gap in the binding behind the bridge. Ricks have that but I have not seen as faker with that.
Quite a few 'fakers had the gap in the binding, including Matsumoku made basses which also had twin truss rods.
