robocorpse
Total feedback of 8, with no activity at all since May'05, and he pops up selling an expensive bass with a single, poor-quality photograph. Oh yes, and his Pay-Pal (sorry, that should be "Pay-Pall") has been hacked. So he gets your dosh long before you see his bass, unless you happen to live close to Norfolk, though he doesn't actually mention where in Norfolk, of course.
Haha, a mate of mine has been talkin to the seller of that fake 4001, and the seller reckons its "real", but wont email any more photos and got insulting when he was told it was fake. God help the winning bidder if he isn't within driving distance of norfolk, and more importantly, god help the seller if he is! Musky
I googled this guys email and came up with this: http://en.netlog.com/clan/guitar_and_bass_...D=121044#photos Presumably thats his '1970's fender p-bass'. Bassassin
I've asked a couple of times for some pics, and he's just blanked me. I'm still rattling his cage in a constructive way:
Hi - I've asked a couple of times for some photos that could identify whether or not this bass is a genuine Rickenbacker. Personally, I think it's a 70s Japanese copy, but the pictures I asked for in my previous communications would clear this up once and for all. If this bass does turn out to be a copy, you could potentially find yourself in a lot of trouble for passing it off as the real thing - Rickenbacker International Corp are very aggressive in protecting their trademarks, and will take legal action against vendors of counterfeit goods - and that's as well as any action a buyer might take. If you know these instruments well, it's very easy to tell the difference between a copy & the real thing. The copies themselves are collectable, and will fetch a good price. I'd suggest that you confirm whether or not this bass is a Rickenbacker, and if it's not, re-list it as a copy.
If that doesn't work I'll set the RickResource wolfpack on him! I'm offering to help you, not 'waist' your time. I doubt you'll find Rickenbacker's lawyers quite so willing to help. But it's your choice, obviously.
I think I'll leave it at that. Bassassin
Here's a modern Shine copy - about as accurate as Rickalikes get these days - it even has Seymour Dunks & a bridge with proper intonation adjustment! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=110219563355 Funny listing - AFAIK Korean Ibanez are made by Cort & Epi by Samick, not Shine - or Saien, as the factory's called. Also these basses are not quite as rare as he thinks - especially in Sweden: http://www.tiptop.se/cgi-bin/multipage.cgi?id=2525 http://www.tiptop.se/cgi-bin/multipage.cgi?id=2523 http://www.tiptop.se/cgi-bin/multipage.cgi?id=2522 http://www.tiptop.se/cgi-bin/multipage.cgi?id=2524 I really like that white one - although SEK5995 is about £470! Happy Jack
I've dealt with Badlands in the past - nice people, and straight. Graham Paddles seems to know his stuff. He was one of the first to start his own direct imports from first Korea, then China, and he goes out there from time to time. He sometimes sells own-brand imports under the 'G&S' name. He's the G, his wife is the S. That Shine is actually really rather nice. Close enough to fool those who don't know better, without being a serious attempt to pass it off as an original so no one gets hurt feelings. Looks nicer than those RockinBetter thingies. Bassassin
Interesting - only just noticed that the ones in the Swedish shop have correctly styled headstock & TRC, while the Ebay one doesn't. Wonder why that would be. I do like the way these have vintage-style (nearly) full-width inlays, they should've gone the whole hog & given them checker binding & a toaster pickup. I'd probably have gone & bought one if they did! J.
