Actually I'm very surprised Jon - I've not seen that many rickalikes with maple boards. But obviously I'm not looking hard enough! :)

I was trying to work out whether that CMI had binding below the bridge - something you commented on about the Giannini if I remember correctly?
i have a cmi ricky copy
i bought it about 11 years ago and used to sound pretty good,
it got water damaged a few years back and one of the pickups doesn't work
but could easily be resurected.

if i can answer any questions on the subject let me know
Pisser about the water damage - is there any output from the pickup?

Anyway, do you have any pics of your CMI you could post? If it's the same as the Ebay one I'll have plenty of questions! :)

Wreckenbacker! :) Wtf happened to that?

They got the wrong bass - it would have been less tragic if it happened to this one:

The small part of me that likes to take in and care for battered unloved guitars wants to buy it. The other 98% is telling me that's it gone........ I can't imagine what happened to the bridge. The rest looks like water damage.

I also have that exact model, lovely bass (mine). That one's certainly been through the wars hasn't it?
A shame
The Maya Wreckenbacker's "no longer for sale". Someone made him an offer he couldn't refuse, then. :)

Interesting. It went beyond what I'd have paid (£50).

I mean, a new bridge is going to be £100, a scratchplate about £40 to have one cut to the right shape, I'll presume the pickups themselves are okay so another £30 on pots etc. Personally I'd have wired a single output rather than try and fix the rico-sound part. Then god knows how much money and time on filler, paint, gloss.... and this is all assuming the neck isn't warped. I was given an old Charvel that had been stored with out strings and a tight truss rod, the neck was tipped back so far it was irrepairable.

An interesting piece - looks as if it could be made something of.

Dammit, that's just given me an idea. I've got a short-scale Warwick neck knocking around, perhaps I should make a Wickenbacker...

Can this REALLY be worth £499?

And does it REALLY say "Vox" on the headstock? The word there seems to be a bit longer ...

Perhaps. Not a bass, though. :)

Back to a semblance of reality - be quick & have a look at Matey-boy's Matsumoku copy, I found this in 2 seperate posts on RickResource - so it's probably being nuked from orbit as I type:

Funny - before a couple of weeks back, I'd never seen a checker-bound Mat copy. Wish mine was...

If the scale length is 30" then he didn't do an awfully good job of tracing the body. Either that, or he's fitted the neck from a short-scale bass ...

We do all realise this is a Kay KB-20, out of your Mum's Marshall-Ward catalogue, circa 1975, don't we?

The seller only thinks it's hand-made because it beggars belief that a factory could manufacture something so utterly sh!t.

I just received a message from the seller of this one, they say it's a Hondo with a Rickenbacker truss rod cover on it. I don't think they're claiming it as a Vox though, if you look at other items they've got, all the Beatles style guitars end with 'for Vox' in the listing. Odd that.

The seller has chosen not to respond to my message telling them it's a Hondo & nothing to do with Vox - and that it's Korean, not MIJ.

Hope no-one buys it at that price - that's real expensive plywood.
