Why don't you 'lotsnipe' it? :)
I could do, then again I've found a bloke who custom makes guitars and basses from metal. So I might just get myself a Metalbacker instead. It'll cost less than the Ricky and I'll like it more for being individual.

Have you a link or a pic for the Metalbacker?

More Hondo - featuring The Elusive Pickup Cover:

Hintsville - if anyone's interested in this - drop him a message pronto - the fact he's mentioned Rick in the title means it's a cert to get pulled, so at least you'll have a means to contact him.

Noirpunk - have you got a web address for Metal Guitar Man? :)
It's probably just me, but I think R/H assymetric headstocks mounted on L/H basses look completely pants.

Would it really add that much to production costs to mirror the neck as well as the body?
I like it them the wrong way round - it's Paul Mcartney's fault.
Realistically, the covers are the first things to vanish on any Rick copy - or real one, for that matter! The basses themselves are so uncommon that I don't think it makes sense for that to be a genuine consideration when buying, tbh.
It's more that if I have to shell out a boatload to actually get a bass in the first place, i don't want to have to fork out again for a cover.
he hasn't made one yet, I'm enquiring about it though.
can't see it being a problem since he's done a lot of different shapes
Pete Longfellow is a lovely chap. Check out the bass he made for me not long ago in the Bass Porn forum. You'll have a great time if he's making you a bass, and the final results really grab attention!

Yeah I've played one of his telecasters, top guitars..
I'm still waiting on a quote, I should imagine it's going to be around 6/700.
I'm torn though. I don't know wether I want a Rickenbacker shape or a Gretsch singlecut shape.

That's the link to my bands page, there's music on there. Let me know which style you think would suit best.

Proper old-fashioned punk rock? Rick shape, without a doubt. :) In fact a Hondo copy is the single most appropriate bass you could play in that band!

BTW have you guys ever played the Island Of Punk fest up here in Edinburgh?

Jon.

Never ever played it. I'll ask the boys, I'm the new kid haha.
I've been quoted £200 for a Rickenbacker shape provided I can provide the bits n bobs to go on the body.
Anyone know of a butchered bolt on 4001 copy I can get my hands on as a doner?

I've got at least one spare 'faker bridge you can have a for a good price. Also a Seymour Duncan Rick-replacement bridge pickup I'm willing to let go cheap.

Where are you getting a neck from?

Cheers :)
Seeing as you didn't specify the quality, I'd suggest:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kay-Bass-Guitar-60s-...id=p3286.c0.m14

If nothing else, it looks like it'll be cheap.

Incidentally, this one is NOT a Rickenfaker but doesn't seem to be commanding the prices that were common a few months ago:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rickenbacker-4001-ma...id=p3286.c0.m14

For a genuine 1976 Ricky 4001, even with a few issues, that's bloody cheap.

ah sorry should've gone into more detail. I'm after a decent full scale neck. Really I'm looking for a Rickenfaker with a bolt on neck that's seen better days body wise. Something That I can pick up for reasonable money and use as a donor.
I'm a bit gutted that I missed that neck on ebay a few weeks ago, if I knew I could've got this bas built then I'd have bought that

No chance - eBay will get fined €40,000,000 if they let that sale go through ...

I thought as long as it's not advertised as a Ric then all's fair..? Isn't it when it's advertised as "Rickenbacker Replica" or as a tru Ric that they get their arses kicked?

I WANT THAT BASS, DON'T SHATTER MY DREAMS!!!

I doubt it. This really only bears a passing resemblance to a Rickenbacker - and less so since someone's obviously chopped the top horn off.

What HAS he done to this?

Well that (surprisingly) is an Ibanez copy - you can tell by the rather erotic full-width sparkle inlays - and accuracy wasn't great with them to begin with, what with the big chrome Mudbucker that Fujigen had clearly wildly overstocked with in about 1971!

Anyway - not sure this is exactly a "Lemmy replica" - Mr Kilminster's played a variety of weird Rick-based things, but I don't remember seeing one like that. Looks more like a half-arsed attempt to make it look like a Rick 4002.

So - has Lemmy played more Fakers than real Ricks over his career? Discuss. Or not. Suit yourselves. :)

I quite like it - looks interesting.

Anyway, half a bridge with mute, here for anyone that may need one for a Faker restoration
