Bassassin
Here's uncle Ashdigits with a "transitional" Ibanez 2388B bolt-neck: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=140268354411 This has small inlays & an accurate bridge pup & surround, but still keeps checked binding & chrome neck pickup from the earlier 2388B. Where does he find 'em all? J.

Meanwhile - a Cimar: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=120308029328 ...looking remarkably similar to the Shaftesbury version. Re the Cimar/Ibanez/Hoshino connection - this is interesting, from the Ibanez Collectors World board:
According to Jeff Hasselberger from Hoshino Gakki, Cimar was not connected to Hoshino Gakki but the "Cimar by Ibanez" low end guitars were made by Cimar for Hoshino Gakki who then distributed them through Ibanez guitar distribution channels. So Cimar were a separate orderer/distributor who were making their own low end Cimar branded guitars with their own designs. Then Hoshino Gakki contracted Cimar to make some low end guitars using Cimar guitar designs and these guitars are the "Cimar by Ibanez" guitars.
I'm not 100% about all of that - the early Ibanez Blazers & Cimar Stinger are identical apart from the name - but I'd buy it as far as the copy-era stuff is concerned - Cimars like this Faker are clearly not Fujigen instruments. It's far more accurate! J.

Happy Jack
I saw that when it was first listed and dismissed it without a second thought. £175 for a couple of pieces of wood that used to be in the shape of a Ricky copy? I bought it for the parts - mostly the pickups - for my long delayed Matsumoku Faker revival, and really just wanted the sad remains out of the way. It was way too far gone for me to even consider offering it here! As far as the financial crisis is concerned, there's weird stuff afoot, IMO. I think there's more of a feeding frenzy for budget basses & guitars, particularly old JapCrap - and I wonder if that's not because people are less able to buy newer or more prestigious stuff - but they've still got to feed their GAS! Strange, strange days... J.

Bassassin
Well - I've never seen a "DC Montana 77" in the flesh, but I briefly had this: Which is remarkably similar - mine was branded "Flying", & presumably flew all the way from China! The only difference appears to be the headstock shape and the nice pearl scratchplate on mine. These come up priced at about £100 from those German musical instrument shops which come & go on Ebay. For reference - this is what they're emulating: I love the lippy pickups on the Flashback... J.
