thunderbird13
another Tokai - I might be interested but the hideousness of the carpet is putting me off http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
dangerboy
Do any of these get sold on eBay, or do they just get booted off? My turquoise one isn't selling on basschat, but I'm worried about the Rik police on the Bay.

The downside to that is it's not going to draw as much attention as it might have got otherwise.
bassjamm
Guys and Gals...may I interject and get some advice? I'd like to get a Rickenbacker in the future, but would probably be happy with a copy if it's a solid piece of kit. Anything I should look out for? I'm fairly new to the world of Rick's, been a Fender head for the past 8 years instead...sorry Any help would be appreciated.

J.
Hiya Jon and a merry Christmas (brace yourself for Hogmanay). Ref, Rockinbetter. I am sure you will have come across this, but JSD's Guitar Shack in Canada offer a Dillions Rockinbetter bass guitar, made in Korea, which bears a striking resemblance to the alleged/anecdotal Tokai. I am sure you have come across that, but, just in case............... All the best, Karl.
Bassassin
Good spot Karl - I maintain that the only connection these have with Tokai is in the minds of people trying to sell them. Season's greeting to you too - I shall be spending Hogmanay hiding somewhere, likely adopting the foetal position. J.
Musky
The Dillions seem to be the same as the ones branded Indie in the UK, albeit with a more authentic headstock.

In the same way "our" Rockinbetters don't say Tokai. Interesting to note that this dealer stocks the Indie range too - including their Rick copies, complete with rubbish headstock. J. Musky
Not for sale on ebay, but it may as well go in here to keep the 'fakers together. I came across a Swedish brand called Eagle which appears to be the same a the things sold as Anniversary in the UK. Nothing particularly unusual in that, as instruments are often rebranded at the importers discretion. More interesting is the fact that the same brand has been used on what appears to be a 4001S through neck. Obviously it's been modded, but it still bears little in common with the more modern 4001's bearing the same brand. Anyone come across these before and any idea on the factory? Happy Jack
Interesting - those look like pretty good ... erm ... interpretations of the originaL design. I note that the website is copyright 2006 and refers to the next delivery being in the first half of 2008, which rather implies that the lawyers got to them late in 2007. Bassassin
Modern Eagle is the same bass as the Anniversarys & Jayro/Gayro in Japan - and there are probably a dozen other rebrands around the globe! Old Eagle looks a lot like the 70s/early 80s MIJ 4001S copies - El Maya, Fernandes, Greco etc - only with pickup mods. The tailpiece looks a bit different to other copies & genuine ones, though - very square & flat across the back part, very sharp-looking angles. The name could just be a coincidence - is this the only pic of this bass? J.
Musky
Someone posted up the picture on talkbass after seeing it advertised somewhere. It was only up for $100, so predictably after he'd made his enquiries the bass had sold.
Annoying Twit
How close do the Anniversary basses sound and play like a real Rickenbacker? There's a store near me that stocks the Anniversary 360 fireglow six string. They told me that they usually get the basses in as well, but that the basses tend to sell out rather quickly. He had one of these and has played some of the other 'fakers about, old and modern. No idea of whether he's ever had the real thing to compare it to though.
