Listing says Tokai, bass doesn't.
Mmmmm they look interesting..... It looks like a 'Tokai' with Anniversary Pups , bridge switches etc. it doesn't say if it's set or thru neck and also I can't work out if the headstock has the Rick slant to it - The Older batches of 'Tokai' didn't have the slanted back headstock where as the Anniversarys do.

In answer to an older question re: the Anniversarys..... I think they are well built but the electrics let them down a bit. I retro fitted mine with Ricky pups and it sounded fantastic.

I''ve had the Tokai and Anniversary Rickenfakers and they really are well built , it's just the electrics that let them down IMO
My Tokai review is here

Confused by this - it looks like the Rockinbetter body/neck with the Anniversary/Shine style bridge. But how does that bridge work in that position with a 20-fret neck? The Shines, Anniversarys & Jayros that use this bridge have an extra fret (ie longer neck) to compensate for the fact that the saddles on this bridge are where the string mute would be on a proper Rick bridge.

Comparing it to hookys review, the neck on this one seems to join the body at the 20th fret whereas Hooky's joins at the 19th. So the construction seems to be significantly different as well as the hardware.

Oh and Hooky, did you never have a Hondo then? I was sure you'd owned one - maybe it's just your user name that gave me that impression. :)

Found this interesting snippet on the web in an interview with the President of Tokai
A11: As you know [our Korean licensing partner] made some LS models for our Canadian distributor without our permission. I met his president at Music China [Fair 2005] and we asked him not to make our LS models to our Canadian distributor any more and he accepted our proposal. I think they are still making Dillion guitars for Canada and USA. So I believe no more faked Tokai guitars in Canada. Now we are talking to our new Canadian distributor. So we believe faked Tokai guitars will be disappeared in Canada soon.
I wondering if it's the same factory knocking out these Rockinbetters and Dillions. Or more to the point, whether someone is now knocking out fake Rockinbetters. :)

Yeah I've had two of them, one was a basket case that I harvested the parts from the other was really decent considering it was plywood.....

That's very nice for £260 - I think it's a Kasuga but can't be 100% from the pics. Colour might be original - the Canadian "Northern" brand had a Kasuga-built 4001 copy in white, so they did exist.

Hi guys, this is the little beauty from Leeds.
I mailed Will, the seller last night but unfortunately didn't get a reply until this afternoon. Too late for a trip over the Pennines today.
It's different but very nice.
Checked the headstock shape against photos of the Kasuga I had in very early 80's, and the shape is exactly the same.

Re-introducing Obi-Jon-Kinobi.

Over to you Jon.

Oh, this was still for sale about 3pm.

Definitely a Kasuga - and an absolute stunner, too. I would've had both his arms off for that, despite the fact I already have a Kasuga Rick copy & two others! I'm pretty sure I've seen that odd black/white/natural finish once before, and I admit I'd have had a hard time resisting the temptation of refinishing the neck in black, with a white-faced headstock. Lovely!

Anyway, lowering our horizons a little - a Hondo:

Wonder what it sounds like with that MM-ish thing in it?

About £250 as well!
That's a Korean-made "Rocknroller"!

One of those turned up before - I think it was an Australian guy on here picked one up - I kept a pic 'cos I'm sad:

That one on Ishi looks brand-new - if so, it's by far the most accurate modern copy in terms of hardware.

OK, now this isn't a REAL RickenFaker because it actually started off as a Rickenbacker, but it's been sufficiently buggered about that it now pretty much qualifies as an honorary Rickenfaker.

It's also a completely mental price ...

Nothing to do with Ebay, but I think I've found the origin of the Anniversary/Jayro/Dillion copy:

http://www.wfhongyun.com/english/photo.asp?n=hp-b-35

Made by Weifang Hongyun, in China.

Their range is worth a browse - I do think this might be popular in certain BC circles:

I think I feel an import business coming on... :brow:

what a great company :) - they seem to have ripped off almost every guitar design apart from a Thunderbird and a Jaguar although I'm sure they are next

My Rickenfaker collection needs a natural finish 2388B/DX at a sensible price.

Wonder what the neck problem is?

I would love to bid on this but as its in Italy and needs to be shipped over and it has an unspecified neck problem I'll give it a miss. If it was a bolt on I'd feel more confident as it may be easier to fix - pity these dont seem to come up that often
