It will probably be taken down because the seller put 'Rickenbacker' in the title.
Yeah - it's a US listing so will definitely get stamped on. Very silly.
Japanese, "steel adjustable neck", bolt on copy. Looks quite nice. Yet again a low starting price and no reserve.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rickenbacker-Bass-Ja...=item230bf3fdf8

Surely Matsumoku with that neckplate.
I'm staggered that this one has made it through, given both the description and the (frankly awful) fake TRC.

What's with the bridge pickup by the way? Is that really what they look like without the casing?

These strange bridge pups only appear on the Matsumoku copies - the Maxon pickups most of the others have are very accurate copies of the original Rick hi-gains.

Loads of Mat basses turn up with these either swapped or not working, suggesting these were as reliable as they were attractive. Considering how well-made & accurate (particularly the through-neck) these basses were, it's hard to understand why they'd cut corners with the electronics.

In the highly unlikely event it stays anywhere near the start price, it's a decent bass. Ibanez 2388B, post 1975, can't really tell from the pics, which aren't great, but looks tidy. You can see in the reverse pic that it has a serial number, this would make itn 1975 at the very earliest - there were no serials on Ibbys prior to 75. Also it has accurate hardware and small inlays, which suggests it's probably about as late an Ibanez copy as you're likely to find.

Hi guys,

As promised to Bass Assassin here are the photos of my fixed Rickenfaker. Im sure you all saw it when it was discussed on this thread and i know that Bass Assassin wasnt pleased by what the bloke put on the listing. Im sorry for the quality as they are done on a phone camera as i dont own a normal camera.

Thanks
That bridge looks more like a genuine rick one than mine, the angle on the edge and the holes that are round when viewed from above.
Actual fact Oli, the round holes are a giveaway of a Faker bridge - proper Rick ones are more squared-off. I've got a real Rick one on my Matsumoku copy & it's a lot thinner & more scruffily-made than the Jap ones.

Nice bass Ashley!

Hmm, so the one I was sold as genuine rick might not be. It has chromed saddles also, and is different to the two faker bridges, same screw hole spacing, but the other two have the squarer holes, smaller damper knobs, very similar skeleton underneath. Could it be a modern one is different? Anyway, the ones I'm making are gonna be far superior to either, except possibly missing the mute bit because the knobs are difficult to do in small batches.

Chrome saddles only appear on some copy bridges - and never on real ones. Rick tailpieces have come in 3 different versions over the years, there's a pic of the 3 different types shown from the underside here, near the bottom of the page:

Quite cool how your reinforced tailpiece is very similar to the current RIC part. Theirs are still cast from soft zinc alloy & apparently still bend, despite the extra mass.

Lots of really interesting pics & comparisons on that site, if you haven't seen it before.

Have we seen this one before? At this price?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aria-Lawsuit-4000-Ba...=item20b5c894ff

I'm impressed to see that it's a "law-suit" model, so presumably they've also managed to infringe Gibson's copyright ...

I would have a go for this as it's only 30 ish miles from me, and I have the gig money saved,however;
1. It's more than I am prepared to pay for a bolt on (£350 max).
2. It needs electrical work doing. I am stupid and would need to get that done professionally.

Nice looking bass though.

Sorry if this costs you £350 mate but just to letyou know I messaged the bloke and he mentioned he'd probably take £350.

£350's too much. It's a nice bass, and as good as bolt-necks get - it's the same as Ashley699's pictured up the page a bit, which went for £266 in an open, no-reserve auction. That's a lot more realistic.

I agree (hence my ebay offers of £285). Also, one went recently in better nick with a hard case for a BIN of £300.

I noticed that he'd signed up here as well. The bit that really caught my attention was the bit about the truss rod (singular). Not sure if that was just an error, but I thought that all Mat's had twin truss rods? :)

I've encountered single rods in their bolt-ons, never in the through-necks though. No idea why some had one while others had two. Maybe just cost-cutting.

Thanks for that Jon. I've no idea why I'm so interested in sweating the details of 'fakers as I've got two Ricks and no possible use for a third, genuine or not. But GAS is a terrible thing. :)

Thanks for all that lads.
Went to my ma's yesterday am, just got back.
Missed all this, the student stuff, the swearing stuff.
Can't miss a day here can you :)
The Aria member Ash has up is very tempting, but even at £300 cash picked up, I would have to spend somewhere £20/£50 to get the electrics sorted. Cos I'm thick and even the drummer won't let me near anything technical!
As has been pointed out, it's a bolt on and it seems a lot of things are proving hard to sell, so I might give it some time.
Ebay in last couple days, virtually perfect 2008 (latest model) USA P, case and candy, £500 start, no bids at end.
6 string Petrucci Yamaha sig bass, immaculate, sold for £500. :)

Cheers,
Karl.
