Soloshchenko Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I'd be wary of the hardware. Al's original build thread is the Lemonbaker bass that this guy claims is the same build. If so, the original PUs he used on the build have both been replaced, possibly by cheap ebay crap.

These are a lot wider than the size of route the original Rick pup would have had. J.

Truckstop Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 The original Lemonbaker has a 'Lemonbaker' TRC. Can't see it on the ebay one. Truckstop

Can't see it on the ebay one. Truckstop
Yeah. Tends to be the case that all the Shaftesburys, Hondos, Arias, CMIs, Kasugas, Arbiters, Ibanezes etc usually tend to mysteriously part company with their original TRCs prior to their Ebay debuts too! I'm not sure but I seem to remember the Lemonbacker name being connected to the guy Al built it for. Maybe he'll come on this thread & clarify. Jon.
wizbat Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Anyone seen this....http://cgi.ebay.de/VINTAGE-RARE-70-S-BASS-/260718312034?pt=Gitarren&hash=item3cb405ba62

Bassassin Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 €908 = £765. Bloody hell. That bass is a Hondo. J.

I'm guessing this has caught the eye of some Rick aficionados and and they've placed silly bids on it to stop someone else being fooled. Either that or a few people want a Rick and don't really know what a genuine one looks like.

karlfer Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 This lot are one of the wholesalers that actually advertise them as Rickenbackers. That is where Mr Hall's efforts should be aimed, not some poor git that needs to move on a 35 year old copy. Karl.
Happy Jack Posted January 22, 2011 Author Posted January 22, 2011 This is rather nice, and a cute advert too: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rickenbacker-Bass-St...=item1e611ae381 I could be tempted to have a pop at this one.

Hands off - lol! No, seriously alls fair in love & evilBay.. I like the humour of the ad. & the bass looks very cool. & sounds good too, according to the Vender.. I've been looking at those ProBass Retrovibes - there's one on the Bay ATM - but read a few disturbing things. What I want is that Ric look & as close to Ric tone as I can get on a budget, having had to part with my 2 Rics this year - a 75 4001 & an 03 c64. The price of another broken relationship, & frankly a price I just had to pay! Any advice? (on Ric-a-likes, not my relationship issues!)
