Would this not be the ideal thing to record bass through in the studio?
It'll be to loud for my studio which is mostly going to be used for acoustic instruments (and most of the bass will be DB or my fretless Wal which sounds great DI'd). I get the impression that folks think that because it has the reputation as being THE recording amp that it's quiet, which it isn't. Whilst it sounds lovely at any volume it needs to be wound up a bit to get that classic B-15 tone.

Cooooorrrrrrrr can't stop looking at this!
Everyday I have to check

I kinda feel the same way myself to be honest! I take the cover off, flip the top and just admire it for a few minutes before plugging it in. It really is a rather elegant blend of retro and modern, not only in terms of the technology but also in terms of style. I quite like the fact that in person (so to speak) it looks and feels extremely contemporary, despite its 'reissue' label. It is a thing of beauty both to listen to and to look at.

I had the pleasure of seeing Beedster use this at a gig last night, and was genuinely shocked at how loud and full it sounded at the back of a decent sized hall. I was even more shocked when Chris told me the volume control was set on 2!

I don't know how they do it, but I now know I want one!

Thanks Jay, it was good to see you, kudos on your playing and band mate.

Yes, it was the first time I'd gigged the Ampeg and it was surprisingly loud wasn't it (which meant of course that everyone could clearly hear my crap DB playing)! That was also the first time I'd had to carry it up any stairs, and I guess the answer to your question of 'how do they do it' is 'they do it by using extremely high quality and bloody heavy components'. It works out at 2kg weight per watt! Thank god there's only 25 of them. I guess it makes you realise that watts mean pretty much nothing in real terms; I struggled to be heard with a 250w Phil Jones Super Flightcase in that same room a few years back, it had neither the grunt or the tone of the B-15 despite being rated at 6-times the watts.

I'd stil love to keep this and won't be too upset if it doesn't sell, but I doubt it's going to get much use and I could use the money to buy more studio gear :)

Sorry bro! Haven't been here in a very long time. Duly noted,

I leave the thread alone for five minutes and look what happens :)

I've had a few trade/PX offers but nothing's firm yet so still open to more.

Cheers

Chris

I'll broaden the trade options a little before I eBay this, all high quality basses or guitars considered, no amps/cab thanks

Can somebody please buy this.....
Ha ha, there's a few things in your signature I'd trade it for Rick :)

In reply to a couple of enquiries, I do have the original packaging for this so I'm very happy to send fully insured via courier, although it won't be cheap! I'm still very keen to do a deal with a high quality electronic drum kit, or failing that, for interesting basses, the more vintage the better. Anything played by Macca tends to work for me, except Hofners :)

I bought the chrome topped version of this (non-pcb) just over a year ago and it immediately cured all my GAS. I literally haven't spent a penny on gear since Deecember 2014. So buying this will save you a fortune.

Fair point, and I agree, it is the ultimate GAS antidote for the bass player. Hindsight is of course a very accurate science, but I wish I'd known when I bought it that one year later I'd have my own studio (in which, for various reasons, everything is DI'd, albeit through some nice preamps I should point out), and that I'd have taken the decision to quit playing live, both decisions meaning I don't need what is probably the best bass amp ever built.

So, cash, trades/PX all considered.

I realised that I wasn't really trying all that hard to sell this so some more pics below :)

The protective plastic cover is still on the plates hence the odd look, but it's number 88 of a run of only 250 worldwide.

An indication of size, which is a lot smaller than you'd expect, and noticeably smaller than my previous Ampeg SVT-15E cabs (keep in mind it's on wheels which add a few inches to the hight of the cab in the pics, the wheels are removable of course).

It's worth mentioning that this is one of a run of 250 units. I hate to use terms such as 'Limited Edition' or 'Rare' because pretty much every bass or amp for sale on eBay seems to be described as such, but this is genuinely both. OK, there's some online stores advertising these for sale, some at knocked down prices as low as £2,699, but the reality, as I found when I bought this one, is that none of the stores in question appear to have them in stock, and whilst they all say they can "probably get one", I'm not convinced, I doubt there's all that many left unsold of the original 250. In fact it took me about a week to track this one down, and I quite literally had to phone store after store to do so.

Yesterday afternoon I played a '57 Precision, an '83 Wal, a '78 Ric and a late 70's P/J through it, and all of them sounded absolutely glorious :)
