They are LED strip that you can buy on eBay, it comes in a 5m roll, you just cut it to length. So I cut 4 sections one for each side and then soldered them together to form a rectangle (x2 one for each cab)
plug in a 12v power supply and done, the strip comes with a tape backing that you just peel off and stick on.
To do both cabs I needed:
1: 5m of led strip (colour changing available too but I wanted blue).
2: 12 v power supply (mine came in the kit)
3: some small but if wire to solder and join at the corners.
4: soldering iron and solder.
5: female dc adaptor for the second cab as strip has just one fitted when it comes.
6: 2 male to 1 female dc converter to power the two cabs from one supply.
All this including the soldering iron came to around £19.

Remove the grills and stick on the back facing inwards if you use the led tape beginning with the 3 it hides along the edge and you cannot see it from the front at all.

Hope that helps
Rob

Interesting.

Do you think that all those fiddly PSU connections will be suitably gig-proof?

How warm to the PSU modules get after a couple of hours use?

I've looked at doing this to my rig a couple of times but the thing that puts me off is how much extra messing about it will add to my setup time. I'd consider it, if it was possible to mount the PSU inside the cabs, fit a standard IEC socket to the back panel and then use a normal mains lead to daisy chain off the back of my rack for the power.

Well I too was concerned about the power, however I did not want to drill into the cabs in any way, the lead therefore from the top cab comes out the bottom corner and rests on the lower edge of the cab little black tape to keep in place, the bottom cab it comes out at the top, this way you can power them and just tuck the lead in the gap between the two cabs with the TC rough covering it just stays there.
It is easier and more out of the way than say a power supply for your pedals, you just need to plan the routing.
If you are willing to drill our cab then you could drill a hole to thread the cables through to the back of the cab and then fit a female DC surface mount to the back and plug in that way but I did not want to change or damage my cabs.
The way I have done mine you could remove and never know they had been there.

I used these strips but in longer lengths to decorate the soffit in my lounge and dining room but the power adapter was a little bulkier as the strips fed off 240v mains, could change colour and flash with a remote control. The strip connectors were not very successful and I ended up soldering the connections directly.

Gluing tinfoil alongside the strips can provide additional reflectivity.
