markdavid
Hi I have recently received a harley benton p bass and have switched the strings from the stock 105-45 roundwounds to labella 96-39 flatwounds and am experiencing some buzz on the g string on some of the upper frets (particularly the 12th fret) am i right in thinking that I need to loosen the truss rod? I am thinking that the lower gauge flatwounds must have less tension which is reducing the forward bow , thanks
Norris
Correct. Take it steady though when adjusting and give the neck time to settle between small tweaks

Grangur
I know I've come late to this, but as the buzz is only on the G string I would be inclined to simply raise the bridge for the G a small amount. By adjusting the Truss rod you will affect all the strings. Also, tightening the TR will lower the action slightly, so the buzz may get worse. Loosening the TR would increase the neck curve and raise the action on all strings.
MoonBassAlpha
This may be bringing to light that you have one or more slightly high frets in that region now the strings are lying closer to the board. Try rocking the frets with the short edge of a credit card to check.
