anyone here play with a plectrum, but hit the strings only on the upstroke, a la steve severin ?

Feels far more natural to upstroke to me, I find downstokes a bit more hit and miss. I like to let the tip of my finger catch the strings in the same motion, just after the plectrum, for a different sound too. You can get a nice harmonic.

I've always been a Severin fan, but to be honest never even noticed he played like that before!

That clip just reminded me what a great, idiosyncratic drummer Budgie is. :)
alternate for me. I only strum specifically upwards if im playing mre than one note at once as it sounds less muddy
it does seem to have more attack on the upstroke.
