(right or wrong) It originated from trying to imitate Steve Harris' fingers when I was starting out, specifically the intro to "Killers", but wanting to be louder. stevebasshead Posted September 8, 2008 Share Posted September 8, 2008 Feels far more natural to upstroke to me, I find downstokes a bit more hit and miss. I like to let the tip of my finger catch the strings in the same motion, just after the plectrum, for a different sound too. You can get a nice harmonic.
