October’s Composition Challenge is now underway!

Here’s the image for your inspiration, chosen by last month's joint winners Bilbo and xgsjx…

And here are the rules 'n' stuff…

By entering the competition you agree to the Basschat Terms & Conditions and Forum Guidelines, which are designed to help ensure the forum remains free of offensive and/or illegal behaviour and material. In a nutshell:

1) Please avoid any content that other forum users may find offensive. If your track contains explicit lyrics, for example, then please warn other forum users so they can choose for themselves whether to listen to it.

2) Please make sure you have permission to use any 3rd party sounds included in your track (ie. sounds that you have not recorded yourself, such as samples of other people's music). The owners of Basschat accept no responsibility for infringements of copyright or other forms of legal ownership, which are solely the responsibility of competition entrants. If we spot any breaches of copyright then your track will be removed from the competition.

For reference: here's a great source of copyright-free material, all available under Creative Commons license: http://www.freesound.org/

3) Entries should be no more than five minutes long and written/produced during the month of the competition, taking inspiration from the photo provided. No cheating!

If you have any questions about the competition rules, just ask.

The deadline for entries is midnight on Saturday 24th October.

Any history to the picture. I've never seen it before.
It's called "Great Destinations" by Henryca Citra. Google his name & have a look at his stuff on Deviantart.
Here's what he has under the pic...
This is the invitation image that I made for some event in my home town medan, so behind this image that I want to describe is : "to develop medan into a city of art" ( anykind of art, can be music, architecture, painting, theatre, etc), so I drew a landscape view with a bunch of identical landmark from medan city, like water tower, n a view of old dutch buildings, n many others, mix with a surrealism n cartoony feel inside. hope you all like it, comments n critics are most welcome. :D
The original is a bit wider with some more goings on & is also flipped the opposite way around, the one above is what I have as a background on my laptop.

I'm going to have a go at this..I have a 'concept' in my head, not sure how it will work out but it will be interesting to write like this for a change, i.e. using a picture as inspiration and also within a fixed time period.

Good on yer, go for it!

Mine is nearly there now , no lyrics on this one though, but the inspiration from the photo has taken me to a very odd place ......inside Lurksalittles head  , she used to daydream a lot , still does a bit , but her head goes off to Emmatopia , and that is what the picture is , it is the place where the daughters thoughts go, mainly when she should be doing homework :D

Sounds interesting. Mine is very strange. All in the head for now but I will try and get it recorded this week. I'm not sure where it came from or what it's about but I like it.

Here is my little effort for this month. It is a trio of guitar and two seven string basses (all played by me). The chords are guitar whilst the bass and melody lines are all the seven string bass. It's all a bit pathetic, if I am honest. A good idea badly executed. I spent as much time on it as I felt able to and, whilst I am not happy with the overall performance, the tune is in there!! Make of it what you will ;)

I am in as well now , it has come out a bit Bert Kaempfert meets James Last as it happens , however , my initial ideas were to have it a bit childrens TV theme meets Herb Alpert .......middle of the road....moi  so , I reckon its the closest I have got to my original idea since I first entered this challenge. :D

Went for a change of direction this month and I found it very frustrating !! Was meant to be uplifting but I couldn't help but notice the black cloud !!

Really not sure about it but I've learnt a lot more about Reaper !!

I've rolled mine in 3 different colours of glitter, added an antique wax finish and coated it in diamond-hard varnish.
Enjoy! (or not!)

That is fantastic , love it to pieces , and at 4.51 it still feels a bit short !!

Why go to such lengths..? Could you not have simply given it a light polish..?
