discreet Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 Yeah well, my G-string is mainly for show anyway. Fnarr. Quote
kevin_lindsay Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 3 strings were okay for Tony Levin. I saw him play this bass on Peter Gabriel's "Us" tour. It's a shame that it was lost in the barn fire at Tony's home. BigRedX Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 3 strings!! What sort of prog rock nonsense are you people playing? All you need is one string... Quote
ern500evo Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015
Rinat Ibragimov, what a great player.
+1 That is not something I would normally listen to and openly admit I had no idea who he was, but that was some beautiful playing. Quote
EssentialTension Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 Just because there are four strings doesn't mean you have to use them all. Quote
dave_bass5 Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 Meh, Metal players only need 2 2 string bass by Dave Pearce, on Flickr Quote

HazBeen Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 A 52" 1 string bass, now that would be cool... Quote

I play in an AC/DC covers band with 2 guitarists, sporting valve Marshall amps and trying to do anything subtle on the G string is a waste of time. Or Tim Quote
BigRedX Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 But you can use playing in the same register as the guitar(s) to good effect. We do a couple of songs where I play exactly the same thing as the guitar in the same octave (or should I say the guitar plays the same as me since I wrote the music) which gives the music an extra thickness without the bass being obvious. Then when I drop down an octave it really adds some real heft and lifts the whole song. Quote
