Tradfusion Posted October 4, 2015 Share Posted October 4, 2015 I recently bought a pair of used Eden EX112 8ohm cabs and unfortunately one of the cabs arrived with a damaged speaker so I need to replace it. The original Eden speakers are the 'wizzer' type and are quite toppy to allow for the lack of a tweeter in the really small box.. playing the working cab I feel there is enough top in that already that I dont particularly need a second wizzer type so I'm looking for a decent regular 12" driver rated at least 300w, it doesnt have to be any particular brand just something someone has bought and is happy with the sound of... I dont really want to spend too much on it if possible so it doesnt have to be really high end... any suggestions much appreciated and a link to where you got it would be great.. I have two of them in a pair of Bill Fitzmaurice Jack12 cabs, they're great. Whether one would serve your purpose I'm not sure, but have a look at the specs and see what you think. All I can say is my BFM cabs sound truly excellent, but then at least some of that sound is down to the design of the cab. Mixing drivers in a stack will change your overall sound too and in an unpredictable way. The kappalite would work well and is readily available. Blue Aran is a likely first look. [/quote] Plus many. The problem is do Eden still carry those older units...or can you get re-cone kits? This will likely be harder here than the U.S... but certainly try and match the old units. [/quote] I've modelled the Kappalite in this size cab. It's a fairly good match for volume, without knowing the tuning I can't be certain but the probability of a tuning around 50Hz means it could (stress could) be a reasonable match. I can check for the OP before you buy if you wish but an original speaker would still be the best bet. The cheaper Eminences with smaller magnets tend to be high Q designs less well suited to smaller cabs, again without checking I'm not commenting on individual speakers but the mismatch is likelier to be greater.
