dave74200
Hi all, I have a squier JV Precision which is awesome but doesn't give me the same growly ferocious tone my old USA Precision did. For this reason, I want to change the pickups and am looking for advice as to which ones people would recommend? I've been looking at some Seymour Duncan ones but there's lots of choice. I use an SVT 2 Pro amp. Any advice would be appreciated, cheers.
Lozz196
Loads of different ones but my faves are the current Fender Custom Shop 62s. Growl nicely when pushed.
disgrace of bass
I've just had a P style bass built for me using Bare Knuckle '58 pickups. Played through an Ashdown BTA200 tube amp they have a very nice creamy growl. https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/pickups.php?cat=bass&sub=vintage&pickup=58_split_coil&series=p_bass Might be worth a look. acidbass
Absolutely agree with Lozz above - the Fender Custom Shop 62 pickups are immense.

Muppet
I've just spent a whole weekend swapping out pickups in four of my Precisions. in order, my preference is Wizard Thumper, Fender Custom Shop 62s, Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders and Fender Original P bass. Thumpers as they were are not made any more but are now Hot Rod Pickups....
Slipperydick
I put Kent Armstrong Vintage Hot P Alnico pickups on my bitsa. Sounds great to me, without breaking the bank.

Sibob
DiMarzio Model P should always be a contender, solid tone! I've also been very impressed with sound clips of Haussel pickups, looking forward to hearing them properly in an upcoming Maruszczyk build Si
DarkHeart
Entwistle neo's, punch way above their cost.
Luulox
Bill lawrence does a nice p bass pickup but they are hard/impossible to find in UK. They have a website run by his wife and daughter, who also make the pups. Good prices for handwound pups too. dannybuoy
EMG Geezer Butler sigs get a lot of love, and they come with a solderless harness so you can transplant without soldering and potentially harming the resale value of a vintage instrument! ikay
How about one of these (the split coil one) - http://g-l-online-st...-2-bass-pickups I'm just about to put a G&L MFD humbucker in a P as a sort of homage to the L-1000 but wish I'd bought an MFD split-coil at the same time to try that as well. I can feel another visit to the G&L shop coming on ... Edited October 6, 2015 by ikay

inthedoghouse
Another vote for the old Wizard Thumper here. Had it for years and love it :-)
Conan
Although I like GFS pickups (from the States, and really cheap!), and EMGs; if you want the sound of a Fender I would probably go for Fender pickups Edited October 7, 2015 by Conan
