kevvo66 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 I've become obsessed with the p bass sound don't really like anything else sound wise is this normal or do I need to see a bass type doctor for a cure ? Quote
BassTractor Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Sorry, there is no cure. This is normal. Quote
discreet Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) This is perfectly natural and there is absolutely nothing to be worried about. However, if you have unexpected urges to play a bass that is NOT a Precision, then make an appointment to see your GP and ask him to refer you to a specialist. Spike Vincent Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 You have achieved nirvana. (small n....) Quote
Roger2611 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Yep what more do you need other than a good P Quote
Geek99 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 I always disliked them till I tried a squier vm p Quote
bassbiscuits Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) P basses rule - that is why you feel this way. I've played something P bass shaped for most of the last 20 years. Recently I've explored other things and come to conclusion that P basses are really what I needed all along. I've been at gigs where I've taken another bass and thought "I wish I'd brought my precision" but I can't think of a time I've brought along my P bass and thought "I wish I'd brought something else". For me a good P bass ticks a lot of boxes. Enjoy! Edited October 11, 2015 by bassbiscuits Quote
Geek99 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 As Samuel l Jackson said, "accept no substitute" Quote
cameltoe Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Many, many have sought to find tonal heaven before realising it was staring them in the face all along. The P bass- when done well, there is nothing better. (IMO smiley) Quote
interpol52 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 To me Precisions do pretty much anything that a bassist is meant to do within a band. There is a Sean Hurley video on YouTube and he talks about being a session musician and needing P bass because that sound is what the artist and producer want pretty much all the time. Turning up with a 5 string active Lakland caused him problems. Of course that doesn't mean it must be the sound that everyone should desire. I think that its history in music has big part in why many people end up wanting and loving the P bass sound. Fender P haters will ways be around, I used to be one. It took me 25 years of playing to convert. Quote
JapanAxe Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Yep, P obsession is a normal state, and in fact a desirable one. Here's a soothing picture: Quote
Norris Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 I've just taken my Squier P-Bass Special out for the fourth gig running. I feel like a traitor to my Ric at the moment, but I'm just loving the sound of the SD-QPs Quote
Lozz196 Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Yep, Precisions are the ones. This obsession is perfectly normal. Quote
Jazzneck Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 (edited) Good morning, Lozz. Wonderful things are Precisions, even the old ones. Edited October 11, 2015 by Jazzneck Quote
ribbetingfrog Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 (edited) I listen to a lot of rock. The times I think "I love the bass tone on this" it is always a p bass. I used to own a MIM with quarter pounders, had to sell it as I needed the cash but regret it, lovely thing. They are indeed the shizz. Edited October 11, 2015 by ribbetingfrog Quote

Number6 Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 I'm even considering a black P with mirror pickguard..... Quote
