spinynorman
I have a nice red Gibson IV which is a lovely bass, but just isn't what I need right now. In these cash strapped times, I wondered if anyone would be interested in a trade. Like many Gibson basses, the Gibson IV is a bit of a maverick, part fenderish body, part Flying V headstock. Contrary to what the Blue Book would have you believe, it is a mahogany body and set mahogany neck, with an ebony fingerboard and what Gibson called "Thunder" pickups, so something like what is in a TBird. This one is red, with a fair bit of evidence of use if you look close-up, but nothing serious. Action is low, no buzzes, everything works. The letters "sec" are stamped on the back of the headstock, but I can't see anything to suggest this was ever second quality, more likely one of Gibson's overstocks. Bridge and tuners are Schaller. The few I have ever seen on eBay fetched between £350-£400, so I'm looking for a trade of equivalent value. I prefer Precision necks to Jazz, and I'm looking for something 4-string and passive. A Fender P would be a possibility, but not with a basswood body, as I already have one. Or possibly something hollow-bodied, but fire away with anything interesting. Here's the obligatory pictures. spinynorman
No love for pointy headstocks then? Bring back the 80s. In case anyone is interested in what this sounds like, I used it on "Tainted Love" and "Because the Night" on our myspace page http://www.myspace.com/emmakband. While trade seemed like a good idea, I'd also consider a sensible offer of good old fashioned cash.
