Frozen Let It Go...oodles of thirds over the bass line...normal?

My daughter who is 4 loves this tune...so the bass line is easy enough...and a 1,5,6,4 chorus.

Then I started looking at the intro' and the melody from the piano sheet music and find that while the left hand is playing power chords the right hand is playing thirds 'n twiddly bits for pretty much most of the melody.

I was thinking is this song structure unusual, as in thirds over the root is not uncommon, but for most of a melody?

Thirds all the way through a melody is very common, if a little corny. Most serious composers would avoid it but Disney tunes are targetted at kids so they aren't looking for a lot of tension!!

Bass on that track is actually very nice

I couldn't find out who the bass player was but the drummer I believe was Matt chamberlain. Disney have a long history of using top quality musicians and studios (Mary poppins and bedknobs and broomsticks were done at Sunset Sound- like parts of led zep 2!) they also are pretty flexible during production and will prescribe approximately 80% of the parts for musicians like drummers then allow them to humanise it themselves. Sounds like a great gig to have!

Have a go at 'Love is an Open Door'. Cool bassline in that one!

I have sat down and ploughed through it a couple times, a bit jerky so would like to get it smoother, as it's a very smooth sounding technique, whoever the guy is.

My daughter loves Frozen too.
