Waldo Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Am currently persuing a GB Spitfire bass, just wondering what people's opinion of them are? I'm looking for a similar sound to my Bacchus that had two soapbars. Also, how much should I expect to pay for one second hand? Cheers Quote
bass_ferret Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 I love em. Expect to pay £800 upwards. There is a GB tread going. Quote

phsycoandy Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 (edited) Think, Jazz bass on Steroids! huge eq +- 24db slim neck, great ergonomic. And just plain class. I dont think you will see one of the current Rumour equed ones for £800 any time soon, so I would guess for a current crop one £1500+. if u can find one that is. johnnylager Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 I'm going to see Bernie tomorrow for a set-up - I'll see what he's got in... Quote
stevie_ed Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I have a GB spitfire and can honestly say its the best all round bass I have ever owned! I know Bernie personally and he's a great guy-always got time for a chat and will sort any problems that you may have (although I've never had any!) Sound-wise, I have an old 63 Jazz and would say that the sound is quite a bit different, more linear, although the pick-ups in the spitfire are so powerful you can get pretty much any sound you want. Bernie can also change any aspect of the pre-amp/ pick up set up (ie frequency sweeps etc) that you want as the pre-amps have been designed 'in house' and not bought in from any other manufacturer. Word of warning though-most spitfires have 18v circuitry so you need an amp with alot of balls to handle it, and also to get the best sound out of the bass! Hope this helps Quote
