Eh? What's holding the A string in place?

There's a string groove under some trees. Actually two, one each side.

String break on Fender headstock A string is not good and they can pop out of the nut. Happened to me with a bass some while back and, taking advice from here, it is easily cured by winding the string right the way down the shaft. Seems rather clumsy to do what he has done when all you need to do it unwind then rewind the string.

That looks like a P-Bass Special, in which case it's fabulous value for money (depending how much they are asking for it of course). I dropped a SDQP PJ set in mine and it's a cracking bass

Can't see a string groove holding at that tension. As previously suggested it looks like it's been wrapped around.

I agree
