elephantgrey
I always make a point of changing my G string whenever i have my instrument in public.
EssentialTension
It's nonsense to think that a neck is in danger while the strings are off. It's only ten minutes or so. In the factory the necks are unstringed for ages while they wait to be used. If you are having work done on frets then strings have to be off. casapete
When they start to go dead (and I keep adjusting the presence/treble on the amp..) Usually every 8-10 weeks, sometimes a bit longer. One at a time, clean and oil fingerboard if necessary, check intonation and swap battery. Takes me 30 mins, quite enjoy the process and having the bass in top playing fettle. xgsjx
I changed mine a couple of years ago because I snapped a string. I play flats, so hopefully I'll not need to change them for a good few years.
JTUK
They all come off at the same time... so I can clean the bass up. Takes 5 mins... the necks are stable and only looking to tweak the neck once a year...if that.
SingleMalt
Flats I will only change if a string snaps, but in my entire time playing I've only snapped a string twice I think. It really depends on which bass, my main player (what ever that happens to be at the time) gets changed every 2 months because I like bright strings, others probably every 4-6 months. I loosen the strings a little and pop them all off with snippers, give everything a good clean and oil any rosewood.
Cameronj279
Change all my strings at the same time and only change when I really think I'll benefit from fresh strings. I use (on any non-Dingwall) Elixirs so don't really have to change that often.

If the strings are going to be off for a length of time then its worth loosening the truss rod Edited October 16, 2015 by tom skool
A.G.E.N.T.E.
I change mine every 6 month or whenever they start to sound dead or having intonation issues. Allways change the complete set, but one at the time, unless i want to clean the fretboad and polish the frets or give it a more complete setup Edited October 17, 2015 by A.G.E.N.T.E. 4-string-thing
I change mine once every 15 or 20 years, whether they need it or not..... One string at a time, I never take all 4 off at once, though I don't really know why as I doubt it makes any difference.
Lo-E
All at once and infrequently. I tend not to change rounds until they won't stay in tune or intonate. I tend not to change flats ever.
