gafbass02
I'd like to refinish the headstock on my sterling sub to match the body (mint green) but I don't know how I'd get the colour. B&Q proudly advertise colour matching, but not in a spray can, halfords need a car paint code, anyone have any ideas of where I could get a matching colour spray can? Twigman
Nitro lacquer here: http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/shop/ if it's polyurethane then I suggest you get it colour matched by B&Q/Dulux then dilute it and use an airbrush. Billy Apple
Watch the Halfords stuff. I used it once and it stayed soft. Had good results with the Nitro stuff tho, pricey but.
Twigman
and then there's this for colour matched polyurethane spray can: http://www.carpaintandsundries.co.uk/polyurethane-paint-aerosol-spray-can-400ml-
Roland Rock
Northwest Guitars and Rothko and Frost both do nitro paint in cans
gafbass02
Cheers folks, I was really wondering if there was a place that could scan in the colour of the bass then knock up a spray can, like B&Q do, but they only do regular paintbrushy paint, no spray, it's only a sterling sub, so a nitro finish isn't really needed, just spray gloss of the right colour. cytania
I very much doubt you'll get a good match. If this really matters I'd get a refin on the body and then the headstock will be from the same batch.
xgsjx
Find a good paint supply shop. They should be able mix your colour to match the bass.
gafbass02
Cheers all, it's really a passing whim and probably not worth the effort/hassle/cost. No worries.
Maude
Most reasonable sized automotive bodyshops should have device that scans the paint surface to get a good match on faded paints where just the paint code isn't enough. They could scan your bass and give you a paint code which Halfords could make up a aerosol of paint with. To be honest I wouldn't use Halfords though, mostly staffed by people with no experience of the product they're selling. The companys that supply bodyshops would be much better and would be able to scan and mix your paint and put it in an aerosol can, if you know of any bodyshop suppliers. Whereabouts are you, can't see on my phone?
gafbass02
Getting a code from a body shop is s good shout, I'm in Cheltenham, just in the middle of a halfords rattle can respray at the minute, but it's just black Edited October 16, 2015 by gafbass02
DavidMcKay
I'm intrigued. Anyone got any pictures of successful DIY paint jobs?
pete.young
Try a local search for car paint match. There are two places in Ipswich which do it, Movac and Cars-Paints. First one claims trade only but the second one has a web site and might be able to supply you.
