gary mac
Wal Pro 1 1983. Four string, fretted. After much deliberation, I’ve decided it’s time to move on this lovely bass, although I reserve the right to change my mind. I’m not gigging with it and only get it out periodically to give it a polish and a play. I’m in no rush to sell and if it doesn’t go, well it’s not going to be a hardship to keep it a while longer, even it only gets occasional use these days. It was originally supplied by Wal to the shop, Gigsounds on the 26[sup]th[/sup] June 1983. I have owned it since around 1990/91. It is a passive bass, with the single Wal pick up and a series/parallel switch. Paul from Wal tells me that the body is Ash with some sort of Rosewood veneer. The fretboard is a lovely dark Indian Rosewood. As far as I know it is all original, with the exception of the bridge securing screws. I replaced them, as someone had managed to burr and damage them. For a Wal it is very light at just 9lb 6oz. Currently strung with a new set of D’Addario Pro Steel Rounds. Nice low action and buzz free. Frets are all good. Controls and electrics all present and correct. I’m selling with a decent quality hard case, although it is not an original Wal one. A previous owner did not treat it with kid gloves, so it does have some dings and signs of wear. Visible in one of the photos is an area of wear by the pickup and a couple of holes, presumably from a thumb rest. There are a couple of cracks within the lacquer on the rear of the head stock, this is fairly typical, I believe, on Wals of this vintage. There are also a couple of areas to the front of the bass that periodically fade. Not sure what has caused this but it is easily remedied with a quick wipe with Lemon Oil, I do this every few months to keep it looking good. There are plenty of photos down below. I haven’t got any under the pick guard or neck pocket pics but if required I can strip it down and take some. My price is a firm £2,100 Collection much preferred from my place in Herts. I will post if required but only with proper insurance and via the courier of my choice. Let me know if you want this option and I will provide a price. Any other questions or to arrange a visit please pm me. Now for the pics: Edited November 7, 2015 by gary mac

Beedster
That's lovely, and no, it won;t be here long! How does the sound of the single PUP passive version compare with the twin PUP active? I find myself horribly drawn to this

I find myself horribly drawn to this
In answer to your question Chris, I've not actually ever played a twin pup Wal, so I can't properly answer your question Being serious though, plugged in there's no mistaking that it's a Wal. I'm really not sure about moving this on. If I'm still as uncertain in the morning I suspect it might get withdrawn.

I actually have a parts Wal bass i'm trying to put together and tested a Pro PUP that I acquired. If you want to get an idea of sound, here is a little thing I put together when i had test wires and such......believe the way i had it wired the pickup coils are in series (i show how i wired it in the beginning of the vid)....also the instrument jack is directly connected to the PUP so its as if everything is wide open. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OG8tYr_wqE

customstocker
from the black remnants in the neck pocket , id say that this was a polyester finished black bass that someone has sanded the colour off & glued on a sheet of veneer . not that it will affect the sound too much . good luck with the sale , these basses are great

Thought I'd stick up a picture of my old Wal, slightly different config. When I bought someone had already stuck another PU on it. One I wish I'd never sold.
