spectoremg
Seeing these guys on Later gave me a funny feeling. They were ok though. JT's been a Peavey endorsee for ages now but I was minded of the thread about gear losing it's former glory. I like the look of those basses, just not in purple sparkle
discreet
I had a funny feeling too, it was 'How can these old gits get on TV with this rubbish, when... bloody hell, it's Duran Duran!!'
SICbass
I saw these live a couple of years back (the tickets were for free and I thought it would be a laugh...it was fun...anyway) and Simon LeBon was about 2 stone heavier with a full on beard. He looked like Oliver Reed.
gjones
I bet their rider stipulates that there has to be half a dozen bottles of Grecian 2000 in their dressing room at every gig. Simon still can't sing in tune.
grumpyguts
Now it's less Oliver Reed, more Dale Winton. You would have thought a few lessons over the years would have done something for his voice.
lojo
I'm am Duran fan , can always enjoy them Jonny rotten with a music stand eh ! Love wolf Alice, but preferred them when they where more haunting and less aggressive

MoonBassAlpha
Nobody has mentioned that Duran Duran's bass sound was dreadful. all mids and nothing else. Disappointing, I thought.
Muppet
I saw them in Feb at Wilton's Music Hall - tiny place, maybe 400 people and he was definitely in tune and looking quite trim given his age. I am in no way a fan but JT's sound and playing were quite impressive too. It was all Peavey Cirrus 4 and 5 strings..

Thought PIL were good though - a nice tight but chaotic sound from them.
Bassmonkey
Lydon always uses a music stand these days. Thought it was funny when Holland asked that guy who his fave act were and he said "Public Enemy...I mean Public Image Ltd" ha ha
kusee pee
As a DD fan, I've always liked JT's sound and I thought it sounded pretty good. Cut right through the mix.

spectoremg
I'm a fan too of the band and John's sound but it was a bit weedy on the night. The kind of sound you'd expect from a purple bass
gary mac
I've just I had a listen to it via my hi fi, sounded fine to me and suited the number. Could hear JT loud and clear. It's a number I would like to add to our band's set list.
RandomBass
I liked it, including JTs sound. However, purple basses are far better for metal.

[/quote] bass sounds dreadful - i am nearby he could have borrowed my squire J and a trace boxer practice amp would have sounded much better than whatever it is he is playing through sounds like theyve mixed in ambient studio sound too much for that big echoey concrete shoebox effect edit - just been skipping through the episode - just how turgid is that slow duran song!!! Twigman
PiL were far more entertaining.....and that band with the yellow P and girl singer on guitar - I liked what they did. DD not so much
roceci
Watched DD & as ever the hype seemed to outweigh the product. They had some good pop songs back in the day & always liked JT''s bass but for me they've always seemed a bit disingenuous...something a bit cheap about them. Probably Le Bin who comes across as a bit snotty. In recent years they've seemed bent on creating their own legend & as the greatest bands of all time go, they were never really in the club. YMMV & stuff. Edited October 24, 2015 by roceci

spectoremg
Just seen the Friday edition. The bottom D on Wild Boys sounded great but everything else disappeared in the mix. Possibly a result of the Later/tv in general subby sound.
