Twigman
Has anyone done their own nickel plating using a kit such as this? http://www.classic-plating.co.uk/index_files/Page799.htm I 'need' another Babicz nickel plated bridge. FCH don't make them anymore. I was thinking....if I took a chrome one and dismantled it and stripped the chrome plating and replated with nickel, would I get a useable result? The problem I see is that the Babicz FCH is made of an aluminium alloy so the classic plating Co's chrome stripper would be no good [http://www.classic-plating.co.uk/index_files/Page545.htm] but I could use their acid pickle which is included in the plating kit. Then I read I would need to use zincate before plating http://www.classic-plating.co.uk/index_files/Page653.htm Would it all fit back together once coated with say 25microns of nickel? Anyone tried this? Any success? Should I be looking at another solution?
Twigman
Found a chrome stripper that 'works' on aluminium. http://gaterosplating.co.uk/Nickel-and-Replica-Chrome-Stripper.php
Twigman
Actually just stripping the chrome off a chrome bridge with HCl should leave a nickel layer underneath....hmmm I might give it a try.
