Japhet
Best? Too subjective, but I'll lob in Francis Rocco Prestia and David Garibaldi (Tower of Power).

Plenty of others that are equally good in different ways/genres, e.g...... Ron Carter & Philly Joe Jones or Scott LeFaro and Paul Motian in Jazz

[/quote] Very definitely.... Worth a mention are Hooky and Stephen Morris from Joy Division....I've met a few drummers who've really rated Morris' playing and agree with them. Maybe not 'best' like Peart/Lee, but still great together. Edited October 22, 2015 by ahpook

Lo-E
Oh, Man! I actually thought about Paul Jackson & Mike Clark when I saw the title of the thread, but I'm going to have to vote Levin/Bruford. lowdown
There has been so many, with some, just over a period of one album or so. One of the most used (along with the Motown and Stax sections etc), must have been John Robinson and Louis Johnson.

DiceSociety
So many to choose from! I keep coming back to John Paul Jones / John Bonham when I need some inspiration. Driving, melodic, and most importantly, they know how to groove.
ratman
Duck Dunne and Al Jackson do it for me. And Steve Cropper. In my book he's a fully paid up member of this rhythm section. Pure gold.
neilp
JPJ/Bonham for the groove, invention and elasticity

CamdenRob
It's great when you play with a good drummer though isn't it... someone it seems effortless to lock in with, someone who actually listens to what you're playing and adjusts their parts to sync up and you change bits of your basslines to suit their beats. Creating that foundation together... I've only had the pleasure of playing with a couple of drummers like this, one years ago when I was 19 and the one in my new band... I look forward to every rehearsal
