Twincam
My lass bought me a bronco bass as part of my X mass gifts, as I wanted one to mod. I was allowed to have a go and also do some fret work on it, set it up etc before it gets wrapped up. Must say I love it, my fav basses are mustangs so no surprise but I thought the pick up would be rubbish and the tuners bad. But the pu for a cheap squire start one actually sounds alright, not a huge output but useable, the tuners are much better than A lot of basses. Electrics ain't bad either nice range on the tone and the pots feel nice. Honestly thought it would need a lot of mods to get a decent bass, other than a better pick up needed its really canny. twentyhertz
I picked one up on the mega cheap from a pal who had one sitting at the back of a cupboard and was reasonably pleasantly surprised too. I've christened mine the Barry-tone, tuned it to guitar-like BEAD with four taken from a set of six strings intended for a Bass VI.
paulnb57
Agreed, I really like mine, I also bought a cheapy to mod, but was surprised how good it was in standard form, after a fret dress, polish and setup. Couldn't resist the modding bug though, so fitted a Single coil sized 2 blade humbucker and CTS pots, I like it so much, the rest of my basses are for sale! Wish I could get a Tort scratchplate though....
