Sonic_Groove
Any opinions (anyone tried both?) on Sadowsky Metro vs Xotic J type Bass's? Both built in Japan and similar price -- But which is best??? I might get to try a Sadowsky Will Lee (Metro) this week. Would have to travel to try an Xotic. Any thoughts or recommendations??? Thanks Brendan

The Xotics look real nice glad you are lovin yours! I am biased towards Xotic at moment!! Brendan
peteb
I tried a Xotic once in Bass Direct and thought that it was the best jazz bass that I had ever heard - so I got a s/h one a few months later. Can't fault it at all...
JTUK
I would hope that either bass is capable of being very good and that they could do that consistantly. How you tell which is best, I don't know, but you might find out which is best from the ones you try. As good as some makers can be.... some are going to work better than others altho with prestige names, you hope/expect that the average ones are few and far between. Jazzjames
They're both good, I've played them both on gigs, it's just finding one that you like the feel of. For me the Sadowsky preamp was a little more subtle, but both basses have massive amount of control over tone. You want an active jazz, right? Saying all that, if I were in the market for a Jazz bass, I would check out some Mike Lull jazzes, as they are around the same price as the Sad and Xotic, very nice to play and sound great. I have a mike lull PJ5, and it's a lovely thing to play. All I would say, is play the bass before you buy it. Every bit of wood is different and some basses play much better than others with identical spec.
MOSCOWBASS
I can't speak for the Sowdowsky, but I own 2 Xotic XJ_1T 5strings and they are one of the nicest basses I've played. If you are in Glasgow on the 7th nov, i'll be in the Partick Brewing Co. with a big band. (free entry) and the 3 Judges on Sunday 8th....also Partick
thodrik
I have a Sadowsky Metro, but the 'well built, expensive bass with active electronics that looks like a Fender Jazz' is a pretty saturated market. Just try as many as you can and buy the one you like most.
