lowdown
If all else fails, maybe build your own? http://www.masonaudio.org/diy/comp1176
AttitudeCastle
Not sure how cheap cheapish comes in at, but the Warm Audio one is pretty killer!

I'd pay someone else if it was cheaper or even about the same..
lowdown
As mentioned above, the WA76 really is good. Not sure there is anything near it price wise. Although I think it is just Mono. Good review from last year. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may14/articles/warmaudio_wa76.htm
Dan Dare
I picked up a nice used Drawmer on the 'bay. Worth a look there.

longtimefred
borrow my Cali76 for a bit if you need it mate.
VTypeV4
I think the WA76 is looking like the way forward as they're not hideously expensive and have very favouarble reviews.. It looks like gear4music do cheapish credit too.. Ha! Thanks for your suggestions chaps.
borrow my Cali76 for a bit if you need it mate.
Cheers man but it's for my recordings / masteriing. I'd be worried if I plugged it into the bass rig that you'd never get it back! Just as a bit of a tangent, anyone tried an ART VLA series compressor? Different to an 1176 I know but they have my interest too.
