Great example of the 'p-bass can do anything' mantra. In the right hands of course... In this case it's a guy called Audun Erlien. I don't even own p-bass but I'm a long term fan of what these great machines can do in the right hands. By the way this is just great bass playing: no widdling...

Full Ampeg rig obviously and the Precision maybe pre-CBS looking at the neck and headstock,

He has a very unusual RH and LH technique. And he use a plectrum ... ah throw out all the rule books!

Amazing - such a great URBy sound.

Just listen to the whole session. Really both the band and the bass player are worth a good listen.

Thanks Jules

Your welcome. I'm really getting into scandanavian jazz. There's some superb stuff out there.

I've just discovered Snarky Puppy.
Really like their P bass playing bassist.

Michael League is a phenomenal bass player, his tone is superb bearing in mind he can be on stage with literally dozens of other instruments, and his lines while complex on first listen are rather simple when analysed a bit more! He's up there as one of my main influences, currently!

Folks

I befriended Audun Erlien on Facebook and asked him about his strings. It transpires he uses La Bella 760M, i.e. the James Jamerson flawounds on his Precision.

These are the high tension classic La Bella flats.

I should ask him more questions but that's the story so far.

This is a bit less precise, and a bit more jazz ;)

And trust Ornette to push the boundaries of what instrument you can play in jazz :)
