Hi Folks,
This is my dream bass.
I'm potentially up for the gamble of a blind US import on it, if the seller will agree to it.

What do you reckon, kosher or a turkey?
You thoughts please.

Very bonny.

It all looks correct from what I can see. Pre-bullet transitional period...

How far into the neck is the truss rod nut? It looks like it might be quite a way. If it is, I'd be tempted to give it miss.

What kind of weight is it?

As you're buying blind, ask yourself this: Are you prepared/able to put money into it if it turns out to be a dog?

Hi WoT,
Thanks for going over it the best you can.
I couldn't afford to, and wouldn't want to, get into a restoration project if it came to it.
Again I know it's a case of really needing to see these old Fenders in the flesh to pass judgement.
I probably will pass on it.
It is nice though, isn't it!

It's pushing £700 already - put import duties etc on top of that............

makes it a gamble on the expensive side. If you could have brought it home for 5 or 600 , different story.

But - if it's what you always wanted - like anything it's true value is what you're happy to pay.

Hi Dr.Dave,
That's some other thoughts that I've been having too, especially as the exchange rate is slipping at the mo.
Another issue, for me, is that I am hard on my instruments so am a bit worried about using an old bass as it will probably wear out and/or break sooner rather than later.

Thanks for your input,

Jon.

How about this as a much cheaper alternative, just change the scratchplate? 20 years rather than 30 years old but hey, MIJ P's are good

I shouldn't worry. I've treated my 73P like a ginger step child when I think - sure it would have grounds to be taken into council care!!

Short of throwing it across the stage you'll wear out before it does.
