KevB
I'd still give it a go Les. It can be a bit stressful at first but I'm sure I gained a lot of onstage confidence from my stints in a house band. You may find that some folks come back week after week and do the same thing in which case you can go away and learn the bassline for their little 'party piece' (may not be in original key!) more thoroughly and give them as good a backing as you can. KevB
How did you get on, Les?
Les
Went OK. I'd never met the others in the band but I was well prepared and the band was OK. It was the first one so we'd all leaned on our regular bands to get down and support it. We opened up and did 4 or maybe 5 numbers that were well received. My singer rolled up with the previous drummer and the last but one guitarist, both of whom still dep for us and we did about 4 or 5 numbers after. Then a bloke got up with a guitar and sang a few, didn't require any backing. Then the drummer and one of the guitarists bass/vocalist from their regular band got up and they did a few numbers. We then closed with 3 or 4 numbers. All in all the night was filled with good music that went down well but sadly we didn't get called on to back anyone. Even though the house band was certainly decent the difference between that and the two well rehearsed units was marked. Looking forward to next week and do hope it gets established. Thank you all again for your advice and encouragement Les
KevB
Great to hear. These things take a while to gather momentum but word gets round and soon all sorts will start coming out of the woodwork to do 'their thing'.
