Doctor J
I was in Germany last week and saw Masters of Reality in Rüsselsheim, supported by Alain Johannes, who is also playing guitar for MOR. Wonderful stuff. A few days before we saw Rum Jungle in Hamburg, who were ok, supported by Absolutely Anytime, who I quite enjoyed.

Justin Chancellor's live sound is monstrous and not completely swamped by over-loud kick drum like most these days No photos, of course. I'm a fan of their ban policy, it makes for a more enjoyable gig experience. I saw them last night in Manchester. They were great, though seemed insanely loud! My ears were shafted. My ear plugs are due soon 😂 I got far too excited when JC walked on. also… SO MANY LASERS! I loved the ban. Though the dude in front of me insisted on stealing photos and videos. Great to watch most of the show live instead of through some wee fannies phone. Bucket list band for me!

They were just right volume-wise for me, no after effects at all luckily as I had left my earplugs in the car. They really are very good, I was impressed! jimmyb625
I took a trip over to Liverpool, to see @Mertonplaying with Katy Hurt at the "Black Deer Live" Liverpool show. Really enjoyable afternoon and they sounded great. The support band "Motel Sundown" were really good as well.

Pleasure to meet you Motel Sundown were awesome, their bassist was playing some glorious lines. My wife was sadly unable to come to the Blackburn gig, but we are both booked to see the band in Colne in a few months. Ah, cool! MacDaddy
Barry Manilow at the Palladium in that London. Lots of the hits but also some deep cuts. Bazza still has his voice. More of a gig than a show, although a lot of the band were reading. Deps maybe? Strange set up with the band on tiers. The bassist is top left (stage right ) obscured by a beam of light in both pics. He was not reading. Awesome player too. Edited June 9 by MacDaddy
sprocketflup
The Stranglers (being supported by the Buzzcocks) at Caldicot Castle last night. I'd not seen them with Baz Warne before, he's really rather good isn't he? Worked out that last time I'd seen them was 34 years ago!
cetera
Saturday night was Scorpions/Extreme at Wembley Arena. Haven't see Scorpions in many years so he was lovely to see them on what could end up being their final tour. Singer Klaus Meine is now 76 after all! Extreme were rifftastic, as to be expected.... and bassist Pat Badger played a blinder with a great bass tone. Scorpions were the consummate professional entertainers and really seemed to be enjoying themselves which was lovely to see. Friday night was supposedly Winger's final UK show, at Islington Assembly Hall. A great gig and as it was potentially the last chance to link up I managed to get together with Kip Winger beforehand to get him to sign some of the 'Winger' basses from my collection. Lovely chap.... he even allowed me to get up on the stage and try out his Rickenspector/Spectorbacker! 🎸 Edited June 10 by cetera
T-Bay
Saw Smashing Pumpkins at the Utilita, confirmed to me that I really don’t like stadium gigs. £8.50 a pint, seats so far away that I probably would have closer sat at home. But most critically, poor sound which is unforgivable to me. Bad feedback throughout, WAY too muddy and mushy sound. To the point that they a covered a song I know well and I didn’t recognise it. With the exception of the Foo Fighters in a couple of weeks I will stick to smaller gigs from now on.

I would happily pay the silly ticket price for a favourite band in a smaller venue, but not a stadium. Surely doing one large gig should mean the prices are reduced, not hiked up? As you say, poorer view ( who wants to watch a gig on a video screen?), worse sound, possibly getting drenched and rip off food/ drink prices all mean I’ll pass. I was tempted to see Springsteen recently, but at the crazy prices involved and all the above I bailed. Definitely sticking to small / medium sized venues now.

Utilita doesn’t even have video screens so could have been anyone up there to be honest. We were in the ‘cheap seats’ but still over £60!!!!
tricky
Eagles, their final night on Saturday 8th at the Co-op arena. Had a VIP suite and the whole experience was superb! Then Pet Shop Boys on Sunday 9th at the same venue. Not so much my thing but tbf a very good show!

casapete
Sheryl Crow last night at The Piece Hall in Halifax. A wonderful 18th century building built in a square, designed for cloth weavers to sell their goods. Despite my aversion to large / outdoor gigs ( see post above), me and Mrs CP got some tickets for this gig as we both love Sheryl and she wasn't doing anything else on this brief UK tour that was near or indoor so we bit the bullet. Weather was awful as we got to the gig, but we found shelter under the arches on the perimeter whilst watching support band Dea Matrona, whose bassist sounded great on her Mustang bass. Fortunately the weather improved as SC and her band came on around 9pm. Great mix in a space that I would imagine can’t have been easy for her engineer. Band were wonderful, with Robert Kearns using Reverend, Fano, MM Stingray G&L basses. He also played guitar and Wurlitzer piano on a few songs, during which Sheryl played bass on her Guild M85, and sounded fine too. Audley Freed on guitar was his usual brilliant self, although missing fellow long standing SC guitarist Peter Stroud for this tour. Tim Smith did a good job standing in though. Sheryl was superb, in great voice and looking amazing! They did all the older stuff everyone loved, as well as a couple from Sheryl’s recent album ’Evolution’. Played for around 1 hr 40 mins. They have a few more UK dates, recommended. (pics below not mine, obvs!) Edited June 14 by casapete Pics, spelling

I have to confess I thought The Piece Hall was a trendy liberal left wing name "The Peace Hall" with, no doubt the Nelson Mandela bar, and had to forcibly reeducated by t'other half. In my defence I am normally the (not quite) trendy liberal lefty in our house.

Sound wasn’t great it was all a bit muffled. Smallish venue and it was absolutely rammed. It’s strange seeing 60 odd year old blokes scrapping and getting wrestled out by 5 bouncers 😄 It was the first act I’ve ever seen walk on, not a say a word before, during or after their set. Performed for about an hour and a half and left. No support bands. Fields of the Nephilim do that walk on, play, walk off thing with only a "thank you very much" to acknowledge the audience. It works for them.
Lozz196
I wish more bands would do that, I get fed up with hearing bands thank pretty much everyone on the planet throughout their set, zip it & play some more songs instead. I get that some front-persons chat between songs is a highlight for some people but not me.

Any other band it gets annoying. Especially when Machine Head did it, no one wants to hear Rob Flynns life story.
