Alice Cooper at Hammy-O last night. Seen him numerous times over the last 30 years and last night was one of the best. Fantastic set list and the band were tight and rocking. Great sound too. Loved it :)

The Australian pink Floyd show on Friday

Great show but felt like the band was literally just going through the motions with very very little crowd interaction

I was at Symphony Hall and felt the same. It’s only the second time I’ve seen them but it just didn’t compare to the first at that was at the same venue. Great music but the atmosphere was a little flat to say the least.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve seen The Darts at the Butter Market in Shrewsbury which was great. They were the first live band I saw back around ‘76/ ‘77 and they were still really good! Last Saturday I went to see Remi Harris/ Man of the World at Joe Joe Jim’s on Saturday, absolutely awesome. Then last night I went to see Walter Trout at The Stables in Milton Keynes, what a great night although getting back home at 1:15 on a school night wasn’t the best!

Looking forward to this Saturday, going to see Y&T at KK’s… can’t wait!

I saw Alice for the 1st time on Monday Night 21st Oct at Hammersmith, great venue but always a bugger to get to from the Herts/Essex border but finally found a good route by train/tube at long last.

The Meffs were not bad a lot of energy and noise for just 2 people, a punk version of the White stripes, loved there cover of the prodigy, I enjoyed them.

Glen Matlock well I don't want to be to harsh, he was on rhythm guitar and vocals, didn't really do it for me , and they even attempted the sacred stuff by finishing with a awful version of Pretty Vacant, but that's just my opinion.

Wow Alice was amazing the whole band was incredible, the stage set and lighting, was just superb. Alice may not of spoken to the crowd but he interacted throughout and I felt thoroughly engrossed in the proceedings.

Great set list although he didn't play my favourite Alice tune but you cant have everything so it was still a treat to be there.

Loved the theatrics and different costumes Alice adorned. Loved the closing version of Schools out mixed with another brick in the wall. Alice was absolutely fantastic amazing energy and singing for a man of his age, would definitely see him again. Top night out.

The The on their Ensouled world tour in Usher Hall in Edinburgh a month ago.
They played two sets - the first set was the new album, Ensoulment, in its entirety. Not my favourite album, but hearing it played live was really good. The second set was all the 'classics' from Burning Blue Soul up to Dusk. I would have paid the ticket price solely for the second set, it was that good!

How amazing was Giant in the encore?

Yeah have to agree that I`m not a fan of his guitar & singing stuff, really should stick with bass & backing vox imo, much better in that role. He even says in his book he`s "got a rotten Hobsons" - Hobsons being voice for those not versed in Cockney.

Man, pretty much that entire second set was superb. But Yes, Giant was top notch. I see you're in Edinburgh. Were you at Usher Hall too?

It was great to hear Icing Up from Burning Blue Soul. Didn't expect anything from that album at all to be honest, though I think he could have chosen something else, like Song Without an Ending, Sun Rising Through my Garden, Bugle Boy, Another Boy Drowning for example. Nevertheless, great gig.

Yeah was at the Usher Hall gig. Second set was indeed outstanding. Really enjoying Ensoulment though, I wasn't greatly keen on the singles when they were released, but they work as part of the whole album.

Thursday night we saw Duane Betts and Palmetto Motel in Raleigh at the Rialto, incredible show, third time I have seen Duane and Johnny Satchela, and each time he continues to impress. Berry Duane Oakley was the original bass player, son of Allman Brothers Bass Legend Berry Oakley, today that role falls to Pedro Arevalo.

Albert Lee, Monday evening at the Stables (MK). Excellent night, though he seems to avoid the lightening licks he was once famous for. Mind you he's 81, so fair enough I guess. I hadn't realised what an excellent voice he had, even at 81.

Go, Albert! 81 and still gigging - legend! I’ve seen him a couple of times in the past and, yes, he has a great voice, which he plainly hasn’t lost. Decent piano player too. I can still remember the first time I became aware of him, it was in a documentary about Rockpile, when he added some lead on Sweet Little Lisa. My jaw had to picked up from the shag pile.

A true legend, always the number one hired gun if you wanted that fast picking style he became

famous for. Seen Albert many times and met him too, he’s a lovely humble man who is just so

talented. I actually prefer his playing when it’s not all 100mph solos, and as ezbass says, he also

plays wonderful piano as well as having a great voice - he toured with Don Everly during the

years the brothers split, and covered Phil’s parts. Albert kindly arranged for us to meet Don

and Phil in Lincoln after a gig when they were touring over here together, which was terrific.

Albert is 81 this December and still doing it, long may he continue. 😊

I had to interview guitarists playing at the 2004 Wembley tribute to the Stratocaster.

To that end I spent a day at a rehearsal studio. Neither Joe Walsh or Gary Moore showed, but Albert did so I interviewed him.  A more modest man I have never met - in fact he said he felt a fraud as he wasn’t a habitual Strat player!

Long may he rock… 🎸

I wouldn't have also associated either Joe Walsh or Gary Moore with a strat either.

Good point. Gary had a legendary red one he whipped out to do Red House a la Hendrix.

Albert played a sunburst with some strange Scandinavian act as I recall.

Clearly he had them, but I would associate Gary Moore with the Peter Green Les Paul, and his earlier rock work with the Hamers. Joe walsh always seemed like a les paul player mainly too.

On Monday evening he said that he was 81, so one of you is wrong!

EDIT: According to Wikipedia you are correct. Perhaps he meant to say "81 this year", or perhaps he did say "81 this year" but my 67 year old ears failed me!

Yes, Monday evening was great. All very laid back and didn't need the fast solos. At one point he said that he'd been listening to his back catalogue, and was frightened by how fast he used to be. In some ways reminiscent of J.J. Cale.

A rather special celebration of 50 years of Big Star's Radio City album St John's church in Hackney last night, with quite a stellar collection of names on stage.

Jody Stephens (the only living member of Big Star's original line-up) was drumming, while the others in the band swapped about duties on vocals, guitars, bass and keys: Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Chris Stamey (the dB’s), Jon Auer (The Posies) & Pat Sansone (Wilco). I think I have heard this described as the best Big Star covers you could imagine, and I can't disagree!

The first set was playing the album from start to finish, then a second set of other Big Star songs. Mike Mills is always a joy to watch play bass, he seems to enjoy himself so much, but that was also true of everyone on stage. I really can't think of a better way to have spent a Thursday evening than this.

I was delighted to get a few minutes to talk to Jon Auer after the show, mostly about guitars. Amazed he remembered me from another conversation at a gig Upstairs at the Garage a few years ago. 🙂
