Schlippy Posted January 10 Posted January 10 (edited) Saw The Jesus Lizard last night, first time seeing them do a non-festival show in over 30 years and they completely tore the roof off, one of the most incredible / terrifying gigs I've seen. Yow's stage persona is basically GG Allin crossed with William Burroughs and the band are gobsmacking. Sims is an astonishing bassist, an absolute engine of a musician, almost unbelievable that this vicious wall of noise was being turned out by a 3-piece. Playing Bristol tonight with a few more UK shows left, if they're playing anywhere near you get yourself on twickets and see if there's any spares, even if you've never heard them before you absolutely will not regret it. Mickeyboro Posted January 10 Posted January 10 The James Oliver Band with Norman Watt Roy. It’s half time at the moment and we have already had our money’s worth! Mickey, News at Ten, Emsworth, with @Chimike PS Norm needs to catch the 10.50 from Havant… 3 Quote
cybertect Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Not exactly live music, but musically related... on Friday evening I attended an event at my local venue, The Sound Lounge in Sutton, where veteran DJ Nicky Horne was talking about his encounters with The Beatles and David Bowie. He recently found the original tapes of his interviews with them that he thought had been lost and played some exclusive clips throughout the show. I used to listen to Nicky's Your Mother Wouldn't Like It and Six of the Best shows on Capital in the 1970s, when I was very young and Capital was quite a decent station. Some great stories. Worth catching if you have the chance. 3 Quote
Mickeyboro Posted January 13 Posted January 13 (edited) I listened to ‘Little Nicky’ more than Freeman and (whisper) Peel! Glad he is still alive and kicking (even if the others arent!) I do a similar thing with U3a groups and the like, having made a living interviewing the famous. One of my talks is called ‘Dolly, Daltrey, Geldof…and Me’! Edited January 13 by Mickeyboro 2 Quote
Tandro Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Went to see Sonny Landreth Wednesday. Just him and his guitar, and it was sublime. 3 Quote

Stub Mandrel Posted January 19 Posted January 19 (edited) Went to see the Rogues last night supporting Cardinal Black. (I'm in a blues band with Rogues guitarist Alex) 😎. The lads were brilliant and I was well impressed by Cardinal Black and their very innovative guitarist Chris Buck. The Rogues Cardinal Black Chris Buck. Edited January 19 by Stub Mandrel 2 Quote

It was just a fabulous performance (and I don't really listen to slide guitar), first time I heard him live. It was a 3 night stint actually. See below: https://www.efestivals.co.uk/festivals/januarybluesfestival/2025 I was back and forth whether I would go, and literally a few hours before the show I bought a ticket. I must have got the last one (?) as a friend tried to get one right after me and it was sold out. I will definitely go and see him again. 1 Quote

It was a brilliant night and always great to see a band totally relaxed, enjoying themselves and giving their best! 1 Quote

steantval Posted Friday at 01:13 Posted Friday at 01:13 Back from seeing Limehouse Lizzy tonight, the whole band was really on form, superb performance to a full house of folks in the older age group who showed a lot of appreciation towards the band, it’s pleasing to know this band carry on the legacy of Thin Lizzy at the highest of levels. 👍👍👍 1 Quote
SICbass Posted Friday at 07:07 Posted Friday at 07:07 Last night, I went to see Sam Greenfield with his band. I didn’t really know who he was beforehand, a friend of mine had a spare ticket - very funky and tight as a crabs @rse. From Tower of Power section stuff to Jazz Fusiony (occasionally too much so for my taste) style. Boy can those guys play. Especially Mr. Greenfield himself. The excellent bass player, Zach Guise, bore a striking resemblance to Daniel Radcliffe playing weird Al Yankovic. Quote
casapete Posted Friday at 09:07 Posted Friday at 09:07 (edited) I went to see Beaux Gris Gris and The Apocalypse last night at the legendary Adelphi Club in Hull. A friend of mine from Stockport came over to the gig, and as he’s been recommending the band to me for ages I thought I’d go with him to check them out. The band are based in California, and feature Greta Valenti on lead vocals and her husband Robin Davey on guitar. Robin used to be in UK blues band The Hoax, who I saw years ago. The couple use UK players on bass, keys and drums when they tour over here, but I didn’t catch their names. Drummer was ace, very animated and groovy, and the lady on bass was solid as a rock on her 5 string Yamaha. Material was mainly originals with a couple of covers thrown in. Bluesy rootsy rock would probably best describe their stuff. The small club was almost full, so they seem to have a good UK following. Got a bit loud for me though, so glad I’d brought my ear plugs. Worth catching on this current tour if it’s your kind of thing, recommended. Edited Friday at 09:08 by casapete Add pic 1 Quote
guyl Posted yesterday at 00:49 Posted yesterday at 00:49 (edited) Just back from Bernth and Charles Berthoud in Birmingham Academy. Quirky. Nerdy. Entertaining. Whatever you saw on You Tube - that boy can play live - don’t doubt it! Edited 21 hours ago by guyl May as well spell his name right! Quote
