Schlippy Posted January 10 Posted January 10 (edited) Saw The Jesus Lizard last night, first time seeing them do a non-festival show in over 30 years and they completely tore the roof off, one of the most incredible / terrifying gigs I've seen. Yow's stage persona is basically GG Allin crossed with William Burroughs and the band are gobsmacking. Sims is an astonishing bassist, an absolute engine of a musician, almost unbelievable that this vicious wall of noise was being turned out by a 3-piece. Playing Bristol tonight with a few more UK shows left, if they're playing anywhere near you get yourself on twickets and see if there's any spares, even if you've never heard them before you absolutely will not regret it. Mickeyboro Posted January 10 Posted January 10 The James Oliver Band with Norman Watt Roy. It’s half time at the moment and we have already had our money’s worth! Mickey, News at Ten, Emsworth, with @Chimike PS Norm needs to catch the 10.50 from Havant… 3 Quote
cybertect Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Not exactly live music, but musically related... on Friday evening I attended an event at my local venue, The Sound Lounge in Sutton, where veteran DJ Nicky Horne was talking about his encounters with The Beatles and David Bowie. He recently found the original tapes of his interviews with them that he thought had been lost and played some exclusive clips throughout the show. I used to listen to Nicky's Your Mother Wouldn't Like It and Six of the Best shows on Capital in the 1970s, when I was very young and Capital was quite a decent station. Some great stories. Worth catching if you have the chance. 3 Quote
Mickeyboro Posted January 13 Posted January 13 (edited) I listened to ‘Little Nicky’ more than Freeman and (whisper) Peel! Glad he is still alive and kicking (even if the others arent!) I do a similar thing with U3a groups and the like, having made a living interviewing the famous. One of my talks is called ‘Dolly, Daltrey, Geldof…and Me’! Edited January 13 by Mickeyboro 2 Quote
Tandro Posted Friday at 13:31 Posted Friday at 13:31 Went to see Sonny Landreth Wednesday. Just him and his guitar, and it was sublime. 3 Quote

Stub Mandrel Posted Sunday at 12:52 Posted Sunday at 12:52 (edited) Went to see the Rogues last night supporting Cardinal Black. (I'm in a blues band with Rogues guitarist Alex) 😎. The lads were brilliant and I was well impressed by Cardinal Black and their very innovative guitarist Chris Buck. The Rogues Cardinal Black Chris Buck. Edited Sunday at 12:52 by Stub Mandrel 2 Quote

It was just a fabulous performance (and I don't really listen to slide guitar), first time I heard him live. It was a 3 night stint actually. See below: https://www.efestivals.co.uk/festivals/januarybluesfestival/2025 I was back and forth whether I would go, and literally a few hours before the show I bought a ticket. I must have got the last one (?) as a friend tried to get one right after me and it was sold out. I will definitely go and see him again. 1 Quote

Thoroughly enjoyed. Hi Sam! I must admit I'd heard a lot about the band but not much of the music. It was a brilliant night and always great to see a band totally relaxed, enjoying themselves and giving their best! Quote
