TrevorR Posted February 7 Posted February 7 At the other end of the venue scale, just back from seeing Carrie Martin and Tomorrow Bird at Runnymede Folk Club. Fabulous evening of music! 1 Quote
howdenspur Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Still recovering from a "double header"...well almost. Saw John Shuttleworth at The Ropery Hall on Sunday - well observed humour, very funny and then, by way of contrast, Transatlantic Sessions at York Barbican last night. Fantastic evening, quite mesmerising. Featured, among others, London Wainwright III and Julie Fowlis. 3 Quote

Wainwright and Fowlis is quite the guest vocalist pairing. Quote
cybertect Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Friday evening, after a few months' absence, Robbie McIntosh returned to my favourite local venue, The Sound Lounge, in Sutton, south London. Superb as always \ Quote
TrevorR Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Transatlantic Sessions at the Royal Festival Hall last night. Great evening of Celtic and Americana music. It featured the absolute cream of Celtic and Americana musicians sharing one stage - including guest vocalists Julie Fowlis and Loudon Wainwright III... just stunning!!! 4 Quote

Sean Posted February 10 Posted February 10 I went to see Marisa and the Moths at their first headline show at The Frog & Fiddle in Cheltenham. Never seen 'em before, I was taken along with some friends. What a show! I had seen Marisa singing a coupe of songs with Sophie Lloyd in Cardiff before Xmas. The bass player in M&tM is fab, does a solo acoustic guitar song as has such a strong gravelly country voice. https://www.marisaandthemoths.com/ Quote

He was master of ceremonies for the evening along with Aly Bain. Fabulous players both. They’ve been the heart of TS for 30 odd years now. Edited February 11 by TrevorR 1 Quote
Lozz196 Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Just got in from seeing Tremonti at The Forum in Kentish Town. Went along with my mates for an evening out but although the band are obviously super talented and incredibly tight it’s not really my thing. I don’t regret going along but I don’t think I’d go to see them again. Big shout out to the support band Florence Black though, enjoyed their set and imo they had a better mix than the headliner. Wonder if the bassist is on here? Quote
AlexDelores Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Have been to 2 gigs in 2 weeks, can you tell I’m not gigging at the moment? 😂 Last week was Corey Kent @ Birmingham Academy 2 with the fantastic Jordan Ray Landers on bass! Cracking show! Last night I re-lived my youth and watched Madina Lake @ The Asylum in Birmingham! Thoroughly enjoyed it and nice to see them back at it… Ruined a bit by a parking ticket on the van as I’d completely missed that the car park requires you to pay a full day fee for parking a van and I’d only paid 4 hours. Bit confusing as everything was out of order and the app has no van option. But, never mind… £60 into the idiot tax box. Quote
mowf Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Just got home from seeing Cory Wong in Manchester. Absolutely floored by the support band Couch; not only the quality of the music, but the mix was flawless from the first note. Super tight and funky, awesome singer. Cory’s set was amazing too, but the mix wasn’t as good. At times I couldn’t hear his guitar, and the bass was pretty much inaudible all the time. Didn’t spoil the night though. Musicianship was off the scale. My son’s verdict at the end of Cory’s set: “That was insane!” Quote
markbunney Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Went to see Kasabian at Shepards Bush Empire last night for a War Child gig. They were awesome as always, and it was great seeing them in such a small venue. Support band was Blossoms who I had never heard of, they were also great and I’ve enjoyed listening to them today. cetera Posted February 27 Posted February 27 (edited) Just on train home from a sold out show by Uriah Heep, April Wine & Tyketto at the London Palladium. Heep & Tyketto were both excellent as always. April Wine didn't really do anything for me.... Pretty good live sound in the venue though....in particular Chris Childs' bass with Tyketto cut through nicely...🎸👍😎 Edited February 27 by cetera Quote
MacDaddy Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Dave Barbarossa's new band Third House, last night at The Half Moon in Putney. It's a guitar and bass duo with backing tracks. Early 80's alternative vibe. Great drumming, vocals a bit (lot) flat all night. Quote

Just brilliant. Quote
Bassassin Posted Monday at 18:59 Posted Monday at 18:59 The mighty Opeth at Glasgow Barras last night. First time they've toured in nearly 5 years! Not the best vantage point for dynamic band pics but by 'eck they were good. Hairy! Hairy!! Hairy f*ckin' goat!!! You probably had to be there. Quote
nekomatic Posted Thursday at 17:44 Posted Thursday at 17:44 Espen Eriksen Trio with Andy Sheppard. I didn’t know the trio before, but was a big fan of Sheppard’s mainly via his work with Carla Bley and Steve Swallow. Bit worried after the first couple of tunes that it was all going to be a bit… nice, as in predictable and safe, but they started to stretch out a bit after that and ended up very good indeed, Lars Tormod Jenset on bass delivering his share of that. nekomatic Posted Friday at 13:29 Posted Friday at 13:29 In something of a contrast to the previous night, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Manchester Opera House, because a mate of mrs nekomatic's was playing French horn in the pit band and got us cheap (relatively) tickets. I affect not to be a fan of musicals but it was proper old-fashioned entertainment and everyone on stage was clearly very good at what they did and working very hard at it, so had to concede that I enjoyed it very much. Pit band was a 9-piece although three of those were keyboards, one Mat Elliot on bass who also had plenty to do all night and was clearly very good at it. 1 Quote
