Levellers last night in Basingstoke, first time I've been to a gig with silent stage. An odd experience. Sound was pretty good except for bass and I wonder if it was better further back as we were front row. Tiny speakers to fill the front of stage. Still had a great time and the band were excellent. Mid seventies EB3 was nice to see even if I couldn't Hear it too well.

The mighty Opeth at Glasgow Barras last night. First time they've toured in nearly 5 years! Not the best vantage point for dynamic band pics but by 'eck they were good.

Sungazer at the Islington Assembly Rooms

If you've never heard of them before (and I was one of those people) then check them out. They are awesome, playing proggy jazz-fusion. The bass playing was sublime. So glad my son got those tickets

Cool, was that a quartet lineup or just the duo? They’re in Manchester tonight and I contemplated going but I think it’s just Adam Neely and the drummer, and, well, I didn’t.

What was properly jaw-dropping was £8.35 for a pint of 3.8% Metro session IPA

(despite a false start soundwise, they sorted it out pretty quickly and yeah it sounded pretty good. Much better than last time at Heaven, not as good as the Jazz Cafe)

The Darkness on Thursday night at Leicester De Montfort Hall. Absolutely epic. Just pure entertainment and loud rock all rolled into one. Awesome.

Allison Rayner Quintet at the Albany Jazz club in Coventry. They were just brilliant. Superb musicians and jazz rich in harmony and multiple time signatures but still grooving along. `Steve Lodder on keyboards was astonishing!

Next gig will be the Santana Tribute band called "Very Santana".

I've got their album on CD and it is really good. I'd like to see them again playing their own material.

I'm sure you'll have a great night seeing them.

I will.... I've seen all the tours since 2018 plus a couple of special gigs! 😁

I'm going to pre-empt this one and, as sad as I am that I can not in anyway be there to see the two-nighter shows, I am catching up with Devin Townsend's Moth show which is streaming this evening https://onair.events/devin-townsend-the-moth

two of my friends are in his touring band and if nothing else I'll be cheering them on BIG STYLE! - Devvy is a legend and has funded the entire project out of his own pocket.

Devin Townsend 'The Moth' - Live Concert Stream

Visionary musician Devin Townsend unveils his rock opera The Moth. Streaming live from 28 March 2025.

After a decade in the making, Townsend’s new composition, The Moth, tells the story of the human experience from birth to death. Together with the symphony orchestra Noord Nederlands Orkest, the narrative will be brought to life by an impressive seventy musicians, a sixty-member choir, and his own band (which includes Mike Keneally, Joseph Stephenson, Darby Todd, and James Leach).

Best known for his groundbreaking metal, progressive rock, and ambient music, Devin Townsend has pushed the boundaries of genre across his 30-year career and established an unparalleled artistic legacy. The Moth will be staged exclusively in Groningen, and there have been no plans for global access - until now.

The show will stream live on 28 March 2025 at 20:15 (CET). It will then be available on demand with unlimited replays through the On Air website, mobile, and TV apps.  "

Enjoyed Sungazer (Adam Neely and co.) last night at Future Yard venue in Birkenhead; great gig, plus interesting QandA session before the gig, nerding for the nerds, bass and otherwise

Stood next to the FoH desk and the sound was epic, spent half the gig eyes closed bathed in 3D aural and physical music - didn't much like the venue stage lighting (really bright strips behind the stage facing forward, most bands they'd be either side/behind the drums so less visible bit this band have bass and drums either side and sax and guitar in the middle) but that was the only downside, other than price of beer, the on site food was good with vegan option and a really chilled relaxed attitude all round, had a chat with security guy, who really had an easy night.

We had a chat with the promoter when we arrived, and got her business card - original music is her thing.......fyi

The Illegal Eagles in Ringwood. Stunningly professional, but it was hard to get engaged.

I can see why the tickets were £40 each, but I think I’d have been as happy down at the local with a band with a personality.

This seems to be an issue with the more 'professional' tributes - they are straightjacketed by not being able to improvise audience interaction without 'breaking character'.

I had that feeling with "The Music Box" or whatever it is, the genesis tribute, very much like the videos of genesis back in the day but it left me a bit cold. But then I saw Steve Hackett doing some of the same songs and they had way more life, but weren't true to the original, because they are his songs and he doesn't have to do them like that.

Was always my issue with tributes really, the original group doesn't have to make it like the album, where the tributes do

Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs  at SWX in Bristol last night. Support band, Irked were superb. Loads of punk energy and some almost heavy riffs.

Pigs were absolutely brilliant as always with their Sabbath inspired noise. Great performance and as always, the sound in SWX was brilliant. Third time I've seen them and they just keep getting better. The mosh pit was rather lively, I've got a few bruises this morning.

Last night at my most local venue, The Sound Lounge in Sutton, about 120 of us were treated to an hour and a half of improvisation by The Pete Roth Trio, plus a Q&A session at the start.

The trio is Pete Roth on guitar, Mike Pratt on bass and the legend that is Bill Bruford drumming, persuaded out of 15 years of retirement by an overwhelming urge to play drums again.

Went and saw 'Invisible Airwaves' (Rush tribute) at the Cavern in Raynes Park, SW London with @Hamster & Darren Redick last night.

Great gig, really tight band and some.superb musicianship all around! Tamasz absolutely nailed Geddy's super high vocal stylings while @Hemibass did a fantastic job reproducing Geddy's basslines, keys and pedals!

Personal highlights were The Trees, Limelight, Freewill, Tom Sawyer and a cracking version of Xanadu!

Catch them if they play near you...!

I've seen the Musical Box several times and chatted a fair bit to them after the gig. Nice chaps to talk to. But yes, they stayed in character for the gig and I've had expected nothing less. I guess it depends on the tribute and the level they aim for. The Musical Box are looking for as authentic experience as possible: audibly, visually and between songs story telling too.

I'm looking forward to seeing them in a couple of weeks time on the "Genesis Live" tour at the De Montfort Hall Leicester, where the album was recorded back in 1973
