nekomatic Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Eddi Reader at the Stoller Hall in Manchester. Boo Hewerdine on guitar, John Douglas uku (I think!) and guitar, Alan Kelly accordion, Kevin McGuire db. Great show, included some Robert Burns, some Fairground Attraction (yes including that one) but brought something new to each of them, and some other stuff. Definite recommend. 2 Quote
SteveXFR Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Earthtone9 tonight at the Treehouse in Frome. Excellent performance despite the lack of bassist. Support band Hollow Kin were really very good. Quote

Thoroughly enjoyed Fairground Attraction at the Royal Festival Hall last year I am seeing Eddi at a one day festival in South London in August; I will be over the moon if Boo is in the band for that gig! 1 Quote
cybertect Posted April 15 Posted April 15 (edited) Ex-Vöid being magnificent at The Victoria in Dalston on Sunday night with a drummer borrowed from The Tubs. 😎 In Love Again has been one of my favourite albums of the year. I'd not had a chance to see them since its release in January and they lived up to my expectations. worthy support from Bloody Death, who were a new discovery to me; I'm going to be exploring their back catalogue... Norris Posted Friday at 23:20 Posted Friday at 23:20 A couple of tribute bands over the last couple of nights First on Thursday night were The Musical Box at the De Montfort Hall Leicester recreating the 1973 Genesis Live album that was recorded there. As usual absolutely impeccable! A few extra tracks thrown in from Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot. The strange bit was the "warm up" act which was the MB bass player, and I think the keys and drummer playing some original "progish" "music" - good in places, but a bit "out there" for a fairly large audience, getting polite applause. The Musical Box though, wow! Supper's Ready was immense! Tonight was The Devout, a Depeche Mode tribute. All credit to them for the nearly 3 hour set, but tbh I could have happily lost the first hour and a half of album tracks and skipped straight to the stuff everyone knew. Very good band and a great tribute. It did take the sound man about 6 songs to get the vocals up to audible level though, and I strongly suspect the guitar parts were mimed and very low in the mix. I barely recognised My Own Personal Cheeses. I've had a good couple of nights out though. Very enjoyable 1 Quote
lurksalot Posted Saturday at 21:44 Posted Saturday at 21:44 Loads of bands at the Nantwich festival today, but stand out was junkyard dog blues duo , oh boy , seen them three times before and wow, engagement , playing skills and a great gig experience rates the boys very high in my book Quote
Si600 Posted Sunday at 22:33 Posted Sunday at 22:33 I'm on the last leg of my train journey from Hamburg to home after seeing Massive Wagons at Bahnhof Pauli this evening, well, yesterday now, to be pedantic 😉 Tiny venue, 400 max capacity but a really good gig, probably the best I've seen for a while. It was one of those punt gigs after hearing a couple of songs on the radio but totally worth it. Quote

Rosie C Posted yesterday at 07:54 Posted yesterday at 07:54 Green Lung, back in March, who were excellent. My partner is into this sort of muisc more than I am, but it was a good night. 1 Quote
TRBboy Posted yesterday at 08:32 Posted yesterday at 08:32 Went to see Nubiyan Twist at the Tramshed in Cardiff on Friday, supported by Nookee and Webmoms, absolutely incredible gig! All three bands smashed it out the park, and we danced HARD! Seriously recommend catching them if you can. 2 Quote
Sean Posted yesterday at 11:35 Posted yesterday at 11:35 I saw The Warning this week supported by the bassist-less Sophie Lloyd. Sophie had a bassist back in December when I saw her in Cardiff but all bass parts are on a backing track now. I understand keys and horn parts being on backing tracks because keys players generally want to stay at home and won't lower themselves to play in bands but not having a bassist! Come on. 1 Quote

Stub Mandrel Posted yesterday at 14:33 Posted yesterday at 14:33 Hawkwind at a sold out at Birmingham Symphony Hall last night. They really are at the top of their game and played several tracks I've never or rarely heard live before. Felt totally fresh with a 90% new setlist but utterly awesome. Dave Brock was in great form on vocals, keyboard and guitar... he's 83 now! The support band, Cornish-language psychedelic folkrockers Hanterhir were very good too. Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted yesterday at 15:40 Posted yesterday at 15:40 (edited) Just found this video of their opening song, the only played off the new album! A pretty mellow introduction. Then Traveller of Time and Space off the previous one. Edited yesterday at 15:41 by Stub Mandrel Quote
LiamPodmore Posted yesterday at 15:55 Posted yesterday at 15:55 You Me At Six at Wembley Arena a few weeks ago for their final ever gig, which was incredible but also sad to see the end of them, followed immediately by a trip to Newcastle the morning after to watch War Of The Worlds with my dad. 1 Quote
SumOne Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Pete Bruntnell and the Cousins feat. Robbie Macintosh. They played a small pub, it wasn't a well advertised or particularly well attended, they are great musicians though and I think were playing it due to a local connection and general love of playing. 1 Quote

Robbie sometimes does gigs around your area playing with Hamish Stuart from the Average White Band. He’s a great player, saw him with his own band years ago with Pino on bass. 1 Quote
redbandit599 Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Ghost at the O2 on Saturday. Brilliant show and atmosphere, it was a phone free event and so much the better for it. 1 Quote
jazzyvee Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) I saw a band down at Alfie's in Soho on Saturday night and there was an absolutely superb band i'd never heard of before called "Happy Garden". All the band members were effortlessly brilliant and they worked so well together as a unit and when soloing. I plan to see them again asap even though it was a long trip down to London, on the train, and an overnight in a hotel. It was worth every penny. The bass player was great, really responsive to what was going on and really held the sound together, plus his bass sounded awesome and used effects tastefully. No idea what the bass was though. I saw the Ghost-queue in Birmingham on Sunday and they were explaining how everyone would get their phones bagged. The Hawkwind gig was pretty good, people mostly just took the odd snapshot so no sea of videoing phones. Quote
