Interesting; they’re my least favourite head ever! Various rehearsal rooms I used in the ‘80s had them and I detested them. Never got on with Peavey bass  gear.

To be honest its the only Peavey amp i've liked. You really need the footswitch to get the full benefit but i used to mix the 2 channels with one set with a very punchy mid tone (para EQ channel) and the passive channel set with a nice low warm tone. Mix the 2 together and it was a WOW factor for me. Then use the Graphic for room requirements. It was like having 2 amps in one.

I went to see The Wonder Stuff last night. I’ve seen them over 60 times and they’ve never put in a bad gig.

new line up too and the bassist had a rather nice Zon. I was a little sceptical it would work in the Stuffies, but it certainly did!

The Blockheads in Islington last night.  They don't seem to have good nights and bad nights, they're so consistent and tight. NWRs sound was beautiful, the bite he gets is fantastic. I'm sure it's his right hand, he really swings those fingers at the strings.

Yep, that's my UV70 5 string. It's been modified to be more like a Tokyo model which predated the Metro line. It has dots, a Badass bridge and Luminlay markers on the neck edge

Nirvana UK in Brighton last night, great fun - they looked and sounded the part and nailed the songs perfectly; set list was great too: no Aneurysm or On A Plain, but otherwise perfect.

I did realise I've hit that age though, surrounded by other people in their 30 and 40s, all singing along to 25 year old songs thinking they're much better than anything modern 😁

Dutch Acid Jazz group Tristan, in the Maritime Room, Cliffs Pavilion last night.

Totally groovalicious, though unfortunately, due to having to catch my last train home, I left just as Frans Vollink started his bass solo.... dammit!!

One thing made me chuckle - the Maritime Room is part of the Cliffs Pavilion in Sunny Sarfend, and last night Joe Brown was on in the Main Theatre. That finished earlier, to let all of the wrinklies home in time for their cocoa before bedtime.  The number of them looking in through the glass doors of the Maritime Room on their way past and out...and each one pulling pretty much the same grimace at what they could hear of the funky groove stuff (maaaaan)….. was so funny!!

Dropkick Murphys, at Sporthalle Hamburg, they threw us out about an hour ago.

Frank Turner was the support.

Thoroughly enjoyed myself, even though they didn't play Upstarts and Broken Hearts.

Robert Vincent last night at Pocklington Arts Centre. Absolutely superb gig, with his amazing band. Guitar, bass, drums, piano and a multi instrumentalist (fiddle, mandolin, banjo), with all but the bassist singing back up vocals. The harmonies were faultless, as was Robert’s lead vocal. Bassist sounded great, used a 70’s Precision into a more recent Trace head and an old SWR Triad cab. A really intimate gig, with wonderful dynamics and humour too. Thoroughly recommended if you get chance to see them anywhere near you.

Speaking of the Maritime Room, I've seen Hamish Stuart there a few times.  Last time it was his 360 band which counts amongst its members Steve Pearce on bass and Steve Ferrone on drums (Molly Duncan had just died, so it was a kind of happy/sad night for the band with lots of stories).  The tightest, funkiest band you could ever wish to see at a venue that holds 200 at a squeeze.

Sounds great Paul. Saw Hamish Stuart a few years ago in Leeds, great band including the great Ian Thomas on drums and Jody Linscott on percussion. In recent years Hamish rarely seems to gig oop North, unless the gigs have gone under my radar.

Manoeuvres (a tribute to OMD) to be honest, I don't care that they are a tribute band, they were excellent and provided a brilliant night's entertainment for a tenth of what it would cost to go and see OMD and be stuck a good way back from the stage!

It was great, Pete - one of those nights where you kind of float out of the venue feeling warm and buoyant with a ridiculous smile on your face.  It was the first time I'd seen Steve Ferrone and Steve Pearce as a rhythm section - wow!  Hamish is losing the power in his voice but, my oh my, he has got the funk.  I saw what passes for the Average White Band quite a few years ago with Alan Corey and the original guitar player and at the time thought they were fab.  Mrs S had seen AWB back in 980 (before she was Mrs S!) and said the current lot were OK but a bit 'lacking'.  Then we saw Hamish Stuart and realised where the talent lay.

The Hu at the Ritz in Manchester. Oh, my ears and whiskers, what a band they are...no pics, I'm afraid: like thankfully most of the audience, I was too busy grinning from ear to ear to be holding a phone up in everyone's way. Those low, low vocals (seven singers) through a big PA? Goosebumps. Ninety minutes of Mongolian lyrics, and they had five words of English between them*, but completely mesmerising.

And not a single guitar solo all night...bonus... I've seen Rammstein, Manowar and Motorhead many times, but this was on another, different level. The bloke next to me turned to me and said "You can see how they conquered the world, can't you?", and he was right. If someone had stood up at the end and suggested we go and sack Wigan, we'd all have been halfway down the East Lancs before someone went 'Hang on a minute...'

The support band suffered from a horrible sound, the usual cannon-kick, inaudible bass and massive mid-scoop that seems to pass for rock gig mixes these days, but the main boys sounded really, really good: despite two sets of drums (a conventional kit and a bloke hitting four huuuuuge toms with what looked like broom handles) the bottom end wasn't overpowering, and they were actually quieter than the support band; just goes to show you don't need bludgeoning volume to be powerful... Confirmed again the confidence in the Ritz to produce great sounds for bands - I've never heard headliners with a bad sound there, and that's why it's my favourite venue.

I'd recommend them to anybody, whether a rock fan or not, because they're so different from so much that's out there that they're an experience all of their own. I spent a lot of the gig laughing out loud at the sheer energy of it all. You may walk out feeling a bit, erm, invadey, but that passes quite quickly...

Oh, and I'd like to go to Mongolia now, please... 😃

Jah Wobble and the Invaders of the Heart at Nottingham Rescue Rooms. What a fantastic evening. As Wobble said at the end, this is how he always envisioned the Invaders to sound. The band take their cues from Wobble but are allowed to express themselves and with good reason, superb musicians one and all. A few new album tracks to open with, some covers (Liquidator, theme from Midnight Cowboy), four PiL tunes (Socialist, Poptones, Fodderstompf and Public Image) and live dubbing, the songs simply soar. And the man's as mad as a box of frogs, too. Hugely entertaining. Recommended.

Firstly, thanks for correctly correcting my "Maritime Bar" inaccuracy...secondly, yes, there's a video going around of that 360 Band performing Pick Up The Pieces at said venue.  It's wonderful - the reharmonization of the horns and overall rearrangement of the tune are absolutely outstanding.

I remember seeing AWB at Liv'pewl Empire during their pomp , and walked out of the encore - a 20-plus minute version of What's Going On, as I recall - except they'd run out of ideas after the first 5 minutes or so.  This band however - I could see them playing all night and not doing that.  Mind you, it's possible that my listening habits have changed in the 40 years or so since then...…
