wazz Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Where do you find to be the best place to buy strings, particularly 5 string sets? wazz Quote
tempo Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 I use ebay shop "mymusicstuff" even after shipping from Usa, costs are well below anywhere I've seen in UK. Here's a link http://stores.ebay.co.uk/MyMusicStuff_W0QQ...sQ3amesstQQtZkm Quote
Dood Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 I'm sure this has been asked before! but to get you started, stringsdirect and stringbusters are great resources. Quote
wazz Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 I have looked at those sites but wondered if there was some secret cheap place! The ebay site in the states looks interesting but I'm reluctant to get involved with Paypal. Quote
BassBod Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Try saitenkatalog.de Very much cheaper for some (DR) and generally better prices and choice than UK. There is a delivery charge, but if you buy a couple of sets you cover that in savings. BB Quote
wazz Posted July 10, 2007 Author Posted July 10, 2007 Thanks for all the suggestions. I decided to go with Tempo's idea, bit the bullet with paypal and got 4 sets of Fender 8250/5m strings for £51.70 delivered. Lets hope the tax man dont demand a huge slice on delivery! Quote
Freuds_Cat Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 These guys seem cheaper than just strings et al. http://bassguitarstrings.us/store/home.php I recently bought a set of Short scale Ken Smith (GHS) roundwounds for my Epi Rumblekat and they were cheap (US$16 a set) and the real deal. To Australia they charged US$16. Just strings and Bass emporium were trying to charge US$35 for shipping. Quite ridiculous. Quote
tempo Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Wazz, you will prob get away with the duties etc. I have both times I've ordered four 6 string sets @ $80 (£40). Quote
Toasted Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 I've been using saitenkatalog in Germany. They're well priced and have a great selection. Quote
wazz Posted July 11, 2007 Author Posted July 11, 2007 Toasted, I had a look at the site you use but they didn't have Fender strings. I wasn't sure that they were the strings I wanted when I started the thread but they sound great so why change. Cheers Wazz Quote
Freuds_Cat Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 OK in an update for any Australian or Kiwi forum members I recieved the following email from bassguitarstrings.us after ordering some strings from them: Hello Bret, This is just a note to let you know that we've given you a $10 rebate on your order (which shipped today) so that the total charge is $26.94 and not $36.94. We charge a flat fee of $16.95 for international shipments. Your package cost much less to ship, hence the adjustment. US$26.94 is Aus$31.30 This is super cheap for a brand name set of strings here in Adelaide (or even Sydney for that matter). Full credit to you bassguitarstrings.us for honesty and thanks! Quote
bnt Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 I placed an order yesterday, and wish I'd seen this thread first, but Status Graphite's prices are still competitive. This time I've ordered some half-wounds for the fretless 4, and a couple of custom sets for my 5-string Hohner B2V. I'm converting that to High C again, 25-105, since the low B is weedy and didn't get much use by me anyway. Quote
wazz Posted July 17, 2007 Author Posted July 17, 2007 I'm happy to report that my strings arrived this morning from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/MyMusicStuff_W0QQ...sQ3amesstQQtZkm No nasty import tax either so I'm a happy chap. Cheers for the info Tempo. Wazz Quote

I'll report back when they arrive... Edited July 19, 2007 by 99ster Quote
99ster Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 The 2 sets of DR Hi-Beams I ordered from MyMusicStuff have just arrived - ordered on the 19th so took a week from the US. A fantastic price (HALF the price I'd pay from Stringbusters!) - & a week delivery time from the US (postage $10) is OK by me. All-in-all a total 'no brainer'! It's like 'buy one get one free'! The best place I've ever found for strings! Many thanks for the tip guys! Quote
