New Fender Super Bassman, no lights and hum - Help!

Recommended Posts

So I got a brand new Fender Super Bassman in the post today...

Plugged it all in, flicked the power switch on, nothing. Absolutely nothing. No red jewel, just a fairly low (and alarming) hum along with no sound when flicked out of standby.

Have I missed something or have I landed my self a lemon, any ideas?

Really concerned as I'm going on tour this Wednesday!

All leads changed, tired different cabs. Looks like it's going straight back. I do have a feeling that it was dropped by UPS as they just left it outside my flat on some steps!

This may be your problem. It's possible one or more valves have become unseated.

That's a great shout! How do I go about checking this - is it easy or could to void my warrantee? I've been given the option to send it back (for free) and have a new one sent out for tomorrow

If they're sorting it out that quickly then go with it.
If you don't know exactly what you're doing it's probably best to keep your fingers out of an all-valve amp.

Sending it back! Gave fender a call, they reckon UPS dropped it :(

Probably just as well it's going back, then. Even if you had got it working, if it's been dropped there's no way of knowing what other damage has been done that would come back to bite you in the arse a year or two down the line. Won't be long, you'll have seismic creamy heft soon enough! :)
