Nicko Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 The MP3 is on random. These people are not necessarily "bass player" bands but these songs made me sit up and think "wow". Just from a tone point of view. Pararmore - Brick by Boring Brick The Vaccines - Aftershave ocean The Wombats - Backfire at the Disco Placebo - Hang on to your IQ Plain White Tees - Hold On My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade - the fast bit I might have to go home and fiddle with my knobs tonight! BigRedX Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 IMO "awesome tone" has far more to do with how the bass fits into the mix of the other instruments with just the right amount of under-pinning and cutting through as the arrangement requires. Fiddling with your amp and effects settings will only get you so far. All the really important tweaks have to be made while actually playing with the rest of your band (and you may have to get them to do some sound tweaking too to get the mix right). Quote
Lw. Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Good points BRX - home settings are very rarely (if ever) the same as live/studio settings for me. Quote
BigRedX Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Not only that, but change the sound of any of the other instruments in your band and you'll almost certainly have to adjust the bass the get the mix sounding right again. Quote
