[/quote] These guys have a great reputation - only seen one of their refin necks up close, but the work was stunning.

However, Haltwhistle (in western Northumberland) may not be exactly local for you...
Kiwi
SIMS aren't cheap either but you get what you pay for. I've wondered whether it would be worth taking a bass to a custom car finisher or coachworks. Jon Shuker says they use lacquers for metal that can be prone to cracking if the wood expands and contracts with humidity. But if someone could find the right clear coat it might be worth looking into.
JTUK
Definitely Sims. Whether the bass is worth the finish is the question, tbh. I've taken 2 custom builds there and he knew they weren't done in his shop..

Roger2611
Looking at the Sims prices you could probably go to Richtone Music and order a replacement USA body in black and keep your sunburst one for your next project, or sell it on here, I doubt you would struggle to find a buyer
Lozz196
I don`t know if he still does this, but TJC Guitars in Stevenage (so not far from Cambs) did one for me and his work was good, and pricing was also good too.

kevin_lindsay
Yup, Bow finishes are the guys Martin uses. I went out to their place with Martin once - great rural location.

JTUK
I took my two basses to Sims in the last few years and I couldn't work out why he was so interested in the piant job... All he said after looking at them very closely was that 'they weren't done here' To me the paint jobs are perfectly good but he knew his shop hadn't had them in...but he did at that time do work for Sei as I needed some work on the neck and he was authorised to replaced the decals...
