bonzodog
Thats sad news. I saw him play at powerhouse in Birmingham just after he had returned to play for motorhead. Great character of rock n roll
Billy Apple
No! Gutted. Him, Lem and Eddie were everything I wanted to be. RIP Philthy

spongebob
Just saw this trending on Twitter - I am shocked, and saddened. Perhaps the only band I started with as a 13 year old, and still adore today as much. I read sometime back that he was not in the best of health, and had returned to the UK after some years living in America. RIP Philthy - a true one of a kind. Lozz196
Really bad news. The classic Motorhead line-up was Lemmy, Phil & Eddie.
Luulox
Really sad news, the first band I ever saw live. Couldn't hear for days after. RIP Phil
Rich
I'm going to move this to GD for greater visibility. Very sad news. I agree with Billy and Lozz -- Phil, Eddie and Lem were the definitive Motorhead.
colgraff
I just sent this message to a Local mod: It might be nice to have an 'In Memoriam' subforum. Known bass players and other sundry musicians have been dying quite a lot lately and neither General Discussion or Off Topic quite seem to do them justice. Regards, Ben. Edited November 12, 2015 by colgraff

RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE
Years ago, I was walking down Fleet Street on a Friday afternoon , taking the company petty cash from my job to coutts & co. I had long hair down mu back, and was wearing my ace of spades tour t shirt . This was the period when fast Eddie quit. Anyway, as soon as Phil saw me, he scarpered into a bookshop in Chancery Lane . Miserable bastard I thought . Lemmy chatted to me for about half an hour tho'. Not the kind of thing you expect meeting your heroes at 2.30 on a Friday afternoon I don't do hero worship anymore Rip Phil Edited November 12, 2015 by RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE

KevB
I think he'd been ill for a while but sad news just the same, remember listening to the Golden Years EP in my younger days. Saw him play with them in the mid 80's. Stupidly loud. RIP Phil.
Dapper Bandit
A real shame, probably quite an underrated but nonetheless massive influence on hard rock and metal. Hearing Overkill for the first time as a young 'un was mindblowing and his drumming was truly relentless and pounding. Can you imagine the Thrash metal scene blooming without him? Number6
Such a shame. Apparently he'd been ill for some time but i don't know what with? Great underated drummer imho. Sad loss to the world of rock.
